The Internet was slow in our room and certain areas.

The restaurant is outstanding with many interesting choices on the menu. Charming renovations have preserved the essential character of the place.

Some staff were pleasant but the rigidity of registration time was unusual as no other hotel insisted on their protocols. There was a sense that the client was privileged to be acknowledged rather than a welcoming and being made to feel special. Some staff here give the impression you are lucky to be in their presence!

I stayed here whilst walking the South Downs way.It was cosy,warm and had very friendly warm welcoming staff.I loved the open fires in the bar.The food was very good.I had dinner but needed to make an early start so didn’t stay for breakfast.The room and bed was very comfortable.

Lovely pub in a beautiful location. Dog friendly..did not know I had to mention that at time of booking but did not prove to be a problem. Amazing food with friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again.

Warm welcome and very friendly staff. Amazing food, highly recommend a meal here. Lovely spot by the fire. Excellent location. Great view of the downs/night sky!

Room vibrated/hummed all night from room’s location next to kitchen flue. We were told it would stop when kitchen closed, but we were tired from walking all day and it was hard to sleep. Bed uncomfortable in the middle, as it was two twins joined together. Got locked in the attic when key snapped in lock. The towels were threadbare. Quite surprised at that as it’s a simple thing to rectify. Also only one bath towel per person. The small mirror was so low to the ground, it was impossible to dry hair properly. Breakfast not included - very pricey at £138 per night.

Our stay was wonderful. Staff was especially nice and cordial. Food was excellent. Would love to stay they again
