Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Goshen

The facilities are clean and beautiful. It's definitely the best hotel in the Goshen area.

There was nothing to dislike.

Arrived late evening, greeted by friendly staff. I had a room on the 1st floor at the end of the hall. It was quiet and I had a great night's sleep. The room was clean and had everything I needed.

The Goshen property, in spite of being one of the newest hotels in the town has become decidedly shabby. I normally message the GM to share my concerns but I have decided to leave a contemporaneous account of my stay. We checked in late and were assigned room 405. I noticed the bathroom needed maintenance. The fact that bathroom door does close fully and does not lock is no small issue. Housekeeping would have noticed it. The hook behind the bathroom door became unlatched and near broke my toe. Out of the two breakfast staff the elderly lady was rude and untrained. I wanted to take some items to my room and asked her if she had any boxes that I could use. Without any greeting she glared rudely at me and lectured me about there not being a take out service and pointed me to the plates! The worst case was the night receptionist response when I asked her if there was any bar of soap as there was a tiny one left that fell apart in after a couple of uses. Granted that we didn’t have housekeeping service that day, she lectured me about using the shower gel instead. No apology, no service - just as if the staff have no clue as to who funds their earnings or the notion of serving a customer in a hospitality establishment. I won’t return again.

Front desk customer service was horrible. I am a Titanium for Life Member, which provides for late check-outs. They refused to allow me a late check-out. Also, I used one of my free night certificates to pay for the room. I verified at check-in and check-out that the free night certificate was used, and they confirmed it was. However, points were deducted instead of using the free night certificate. Everyone I talked to refused to correct the error. Also, the gym was the worst I had experienced in the Marriott brand. The one elliptical was filthy and did not work correctly. Integrity means everything to me, which is why I am loyal to Marriott. However, next time I come to Goshen, IN, I will stay in Elkhart as this hotel does not show the same levels of integrity as other hotels in the Marriott brand.
