Tophouse Historical Inn Bed and breakfast

Beautiful scenery in a stunning location. A quick drive to St Arnaud & Lake Rotoiti. Loved the ambience of the Tophouse Historic Homestead. Very homely & inviting with amazing fine dining & a snug bar. Great fireside relaxation.

Woke to a frosty morning so a relit fire in the dining room would've been appreciated!

A bit expensive for what it is

It was a historical Inn lovingly restored to incorporate a lot of the history of the building. The room was very comfortable with a beautiful rural view. The shared spaces were spotlessly clean and the roaring fire in the dining area gave the place a cosy feel. Helen and Clint were so friendly and hospitable and Helen’s breakfast was very generous. The dinner cooked by the local chef, Sebastian, was also excellent. We both really enjoyed socialising over shared meals with other guests too.

The evening meals were perfect. As vegetarians we often get little choice but the wonderful chef spoke to us about each meal so we could decide if anything wasn't suitable. Our host and hostess were really welcoming, knowledgeable about the history of the homestead, and the classic motor boat in the garage! Relaxed ambiance, marvellous views, cheerful bird song and friendly animals gave us a great start to our holiday.

We had a lovely time at Tophouse Inn, we really enjoyed spending time with Helen and Clint! We had the Inn to ourselves with them (do not miss the chance to have a beer in the smallest bar in NZ!) and enjoyed a great dinner cooked by their chef Sebastian. They have done a great job restoring and maintaining this gem in a beautiful location. We would definitely recommend staying here for any travellers passing by the Nelson lakes. Bathrooms and bedrooms were exceptionally clean. They had the fires on to keep the place warm.
