DoubleTree by Hilton Rocky Mount

Hotel is convenient, right off highway 95. Check in was OK. Receptionist not the friendliest but competent. Room was clean and bright. Cookies were good and water was welcome. Breakfast buffet was disappointing, but I found out later that I could have ordered off the menu. All in all I would stay here again.

Wherever I stay, I need a handicap accessible room with shower seat. This room fit the bill. Only thing that would make it better would be a stability leg under the shower seat going to the floor. That would provide peace of mind for people larger than a size 10 when taking a shower. That’s a good safety change to consider for all accessible rooms.

Overall the stay was good. The hotel is little older but the staff was friendly and overall upkeep was good. The location was conveniently located a mile from I-95 ans close to a couple of restaurants.

We are a couple in our midfifties with nary a parking ticket between us. We booked through a third party site, paid ahead and have been Hilton plus program members for a decade+ so they have our information, history of stays and credit card on file. None of that mattered because we were required to give them $250 CASH to stay in our paid for already room! The excuse given was if you live within a 50 mile radius—you might rent the room for a party and wreck it! I guess 50+ miles there’s not that risk 🙄 We asked for the manger and were told she wasn’t in. We then asked for a business card for the manager/owners and were given a card but guess what? It went to the front desk/reservation line. NOT the manger/owner. When I went down to get the information we had asked for… turns out the manager WAS there. But she was in a “closed door meeting” and couldn’t be disturbed. I asked that she call us or stop by our room. Apparently Chelsea Baines has far more important things to deal with than stupid guests. I will never stay at a Hilton again. Never. Nor will I use a 3rd party site to book hotels. I’d rather pay extra and have options for lodging complaints.

I stayed at this hotel several years ago regularly when I was in town for business. I was going to be back in the area after a few years and decided to stay there. They remodeled the lobby area and it nice and bright. The rooms are still the same but clean and comfortable like I remember. The staff are always really nice and accommodating. As someone who travels a lot for business that means a lot. I would recommend this hotel to anyone in the area.
