"Very upsetting experience"

I wish that I did not have to leave a poor review. I wish our experience was a good one because dealing with this hotel has been nothing but a hassle for us. But people need to know our experience so that they are not taken advantage of as we have. We checked in between 9:30-10 pm on a Friday night. The pool was open until 11 and that was an exciting perk for our child. We loaded our stuff into the room and went down to the pool quickly, as the pool closed at 11. I went to the desk and asked for more room towels and to tell them that the pool was out of towels once we were done swimming. After we went swimming we went back up to the room. My husband took a shower and the water starting backing up into the shower until it was above ankle height, it eventually drained out but not until he was done with the shower which is the pic that I have. While he was in the shower I started to look for the TV remote. I opened drawers, looked everywhere I could but, no remote. I then started to look more closely at the bedding and there was multiple blood stains on the outer white blanket. These three things combined, the gross shower water back up, the absence of a TV remote for our child and the blood stained blanket were the reason my husband went to the front desk and asked to be moved to another room. The front desk clerk assigned the next room over to us as the new room and gave us new room keys and told us to return the old keys the next morning with the new ones. When we packed up our stuff to move into that room, we opened the door to discover that the room we were moved to was actually used, the bed was a mess, there was trash in the cans. It was not a clean room. At this point we decided to leave the hotel, as we were not willing to stay in a hotel where the basic items in the room were unsanitary, missing or a biohazard and they did not provide us with a safe alternative. We went downstairs to the front desk between 11:15 and 11:30 and explained the situation to the desk clerk and asked for management. She apologized and said that management just left. She said that she could not check us out until the next day due to the computer system and also because management just left. I asked for a receipt and she gave us a receipt of our payment for when we checked in, but looking at the date printed on the receipt it said that it was the next morning Saturday at 4:20 am, which is not correct. I don’t know how her system could print a faulty time stamp. At any rate we did not notice this error at the time of leaving ( we only noticed later when the hotel said we stayed overnight and wouldn’t give us our money back). That was all she could give us according to her since she couldn’t check us out. We asked ‘how will they know when we left?’ She said that they will have it on the cameras, and that they will see it that way. She thanked us for not being angry with her which we were not as the circumstances were not her personal fault. She said she left some notes and would inform the next shift and management of what had happened to us. She said if we didn’t hear from them Saturday we would definitely hear from them Sunday. She gave us a managers card also. We then left and had to find different arrangements that late at night with our child, completely inconvenienced. My husband called the next day, Saturday, and the girl that answered the phone said she had been told of what happened but that management wouldn’t be in until 10 or 11. So my husband called back and he was told they were not available and he left his information again. Same story happened for days. No call from the manager and my husband got the run around being told that management was not in. He finally spoke with one of the hotel employees over the phone and it sounded like the young man that checked us in Friday night and on the phone the young man said that we stayed overnight and therefore we would not get a refund after management reviewed everything. This is a total lie. All management would have to do is ask the staff who was working that night when we left. If they checked their cameras they could see when we left. This is what the front desk clerk told us would happen, they would check the cameras to know what happened. They obviously didn’t review the facts. We feel like we have been completely bamboozled by this hotel franchise. We left a few hours after we checked in due to the hotel conditions, were not given a check out receipt because we were told it could not be done, and then accused of staying overnight so that would not get a refund. We have opened a case with Corporate in regards to our experience and for a refund. I wish that whomever is responsible for this mess would put themselves in our shoes and see the inconvenience that we have experienced due to these issues. We should not have had to fight so hard for what should have been a simple apology and refund. The Wingate should be ashamed of the circumstances we have went through by choosing to stay at their hotel in Marion OH.

It was conveniently located

Room was old, holes in wall, dip in the floor. Smelled like mold. Night staff stated they could not give us coffee pods that was housekeepings job. She told us they would bring them right up in the morning. We never saw any. Very pricey, with no complementary toiletries such as hand soap, shampoo, bar soap. There was an abandoned truck in the parking lot with the window, smashed out, duck taped up in various places, felt very uneasy about my safety.

"Great for what I needed it for location wise and was a safe and pleasant stay."

Room was clean and housekeeping was regular! The full free breakfast option was handy and it was decent. Rooms felt safe and secure and access to a fridge and microwave was convenient in the room.

Walls are very thin, could hear the floor above and rooms on the same floor so made sleeping at times rough. The shower was also not great, leaked a lot while in use.
