Mikado Natural Lodge

The owner, Lolo, is very helpful and knowledgeable. She prepares a homemade breakfast for each guest. The property is lovely and I am a big fan of the bathrooms in the bungalows. Nice size shower, lovely wood and fresh air coming in from 3 sides. There is a bit of a drive up a dirt road to get there (but this is very typical of Costa Rican roads). Well worth it once you arrive.

What an amazing experience! This place is a hidden gem! Lolo was the very best host! My husband and visited the area and split our bookings out to explore a bit... I only wish I had more time to stay here. Everything was super clean. The room was beautiful and what an amazing view. We even had the pleasure of a monkey visit!! Thank you, Lolo! Oh and your homemade yogurt and crepes were de-li-cous!!

I am a little late in writing this, my apologies Lolo. Where to start. We arrived and had a bungalow facing the ocean. Our driver (arranged by Lolo) was fantastic and helped get our luggage to the deck. Lolo greeted us with a huge smile and gave us the rundown. Our room was perfect, the shower and bathroom were superb as well. The view from the deck was fantastic with a nice breeze. Howlers were frequent company, as were iguanas and many beautiful birds. The setting is really incredible. The pool and dining area are just right; beautiful in the morning and romantic at night. Just a wonderful overall vibe. We woke up in the morning and went to bed each night with smiles on our faces. Now the food. As mentioned many times, breakfast was so good, so satisfying. We eat Lolo's yogurt, fruit and granola breakfast 4-5 days a week now. Everytime we do, we think of Mikado and Lolo. Our dinners included great wine, perfectly prepared seafood along with all the accompaniments of a Michelin rated restaurant. We enjoyed dinner several nights at the Lodge, and make no mistake- Lolo is not a just a good cook, she is an amazing chef. Value for money, this can't be beat. But most of all, the experience, beautiful setting and accommodation can only be matched by Lolo and her amazing family. We will be back. Love you Lolo, Bill and Regina.

You should stay here! My wife and I spent four lovely nights at Mikado. It is a beautiful and unique place to relax, even in the rainy season. Our room was gorgeous and Lolo is an amazing chef! Don’t pass up a chance to eat dinner with her. We highly recommend!

We stayed at Mikado in April of 2024 for four nights. Lolo, the owner and host, greeted us on check-in and immediately made us feel welcome and at ease. Our bungalow overlooked the surrounding hills and forest and we could see the ocean over the hills. The view was spectacular, especially in the morning and at sunset. We heard and saw a family of howler monkeys in the morning and sometimes in the evenings. Lolo is a great chef and the meals were excellent. Breakfast is available every morning and we had dinner at the lodge on two nights and each was incredible. We wanted to check out beaches and attractions in the area and Lolo gave us tips on when to go, where to park, which restaurants to eat which proved invaluable for a couple of first time Costa Rica travelers. The onsite facilities including the pool, lounge, restaurant area, and grounds are very comfortable and we felt as if we had the entire facility to ourselves at times. Sitting by the pool enjoying a Lolo made cocktail looking up at the stars after a long day of exploring was a wonderful way to end each day. I can't recommend Mikado highly enough, an amazing experience!

I stayed with at Mikado last week with my brother, his wife, and my boyfriend (we had bungalows right next to each other). Our stay at Mikado was wonderful! Lolo was so warm and welcoming. She gave us great recommendations for places to eat and explore around the area. She even helped some of us who weren't feeling too well with dietary restrictions (breakfast was absolutely delicious), medication recommendations, and even gave us some fresh aloe vera from one of the plants on site. The area is gated, so we had extra piece of mind that our cars and surf boards would be safe. The pool area lights up beautifully at night and they provide ice for an ice bath next to the hot tub which was great for mosquito bites. We saw some iguanas and heard howler monkeys while we were on the grounds which was super cool too. It's far enough removed from town that it's peaceful at night, but also just a short drive to many beaches and other towns. The rooms were beautifully designed (the perfect mixture of comfort and luxury that you want while on vacation) and made us feel right at home. The bathroom is also beautiful and private, but has screened-in windows so you can experience some nature! Overall, a really great place to stay and we look forward to returning on our next trip to Costa Rica! Thank you for everything Lolo!

Our stay at Mikado was nothing short of phenomenal. The incredible Lolo and her wonderful team + family have truly built a slice of heaven on earth. Our bungalow was cute, cool, comfy, spacious and private—nestled right in the woods. The Mikado grounds are beautiful and very special—with lots of stunning views, a refreshing infinity pool and shaded hot tub that are both open at night, two lovely trails to hike, and a warm dining area where each visitor is treated like the guest of honor. As if Lolo wasn’t enough of an all-star for building and running this place in tip top shape, she also is an incredible chef who was able to serve us nonstop prix fixe deliciousness even while accommodating my significant dietary restrictions. With the resort built atop a hilltop forest tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo, there’s no better place for a nature lover than Mikado. We saw howler monkeys, tropical birds, iguanas, frogs, toads, lizards—and that was all just from the luxurious comfort of the pool! And because it’s a small resort without too many guests at a time, the facilities all felt very private. We cannot recommend this place more highly and honestly could’ve stayed MONTHS longer than we did. Don’t miss the opportunity to treat yourself by staying somewhere so special.

The property is beautifully designed and very well maintained. We stayed in Lodge 2 with a spectacular view of the rainforest and the Pacific ocean. Lollo, the host, is an excellent cook (we enjoyed dinner) and a very friendly and helpful host.

Access to the property is not easy with a 2WD car. Roads are gravel roads at best and sometimes very rocky. We were fortunate that the road was repaired (gravel added) just a few weeks before. But the location is well worth it!
