Quality Inn Schaumburg - Chicago near the Mall

I selected this hotel for a recent trip to the area because of its ratings and Gold Award status with Choice. It's a four story, interior corridor hotel. This place was clearly very nice when it was first opened, and still retains some impressive design features even now. The lobby has a water fountain and a big, multi-story cahndelier-type light fixture. Granite finishes are present throughout. Every so often, a hotel that was pretty fancy ends up converting to the Quality Inn brand, and finding such properties is a nice surprise. My room for this visit was 325, with one king bed. The bathroom is separate from the sink/vanity which means a smaller bathroom with no counter space, although there is a shelf above the toilet for smaller items. The bathroom itself is finished in old-school tile. It's still in good condition despite being original from the hotel's opening. The room's floors received the fake wood laminate treatment, although photos on the Choice website still have the old carpet. One of the bedside lamps had a burned-out bulb, and a couple of lamps were loose and wobbly. Everything was clean, the bed was comfortable but a bit softer than expected, and nearly everything worked besides a couple of the lamps. Some furniture was older but still in good shape. Unfortunately there was one other thing that was problematic. That being the wireless internet. Speeds ranged from "minimally acceptable" to "dial-up would likely be better." I made two calls to the technical support number listed on the desk and they couldn't get the issue resolved. I hope the wi-fi issue is temporary, as it was the single biggest issue I had during my stay. Breakfast was among the better ones I've had at a hotel. Its menu changed daily and my two favorite hotel breakfast items - bacon and fried breakfast potatoes - showed up once or twice during my time there. The breakfast room was unusually spacious. Staff service was friendly for the most part, but varied depending on the specific employee on shift. The hotel has an indoor pool, hot tub, and small outdoor patio. This Quality Inn of Schaumburg is still impressive today, with some design features you'd find in a more expensive property. The rooms are nice despite some age, although some of the lamps are due to be replaced or repaired. The biggest problem was the unacceptably slow wi-fi, and hopefully they can get it resolved soon. Honestly, if it's acting up, use your phone data like I did. This is still a very nice Quality Inn if you disregard the slow internet.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Was close to many restaurants and the mall.

Biggest problem was that the mini fridge was really small, and there was no way to adjust the temperature of it. And it did not get very cold to begin with.

I stayed overnight and the hotel and rooms were clean. The bed was clean, bathroom fully functional with adequate toiletries. I stayed on a week day with low crowd levels. Breakfast place was adequate with the decent breakfast. Eggs, some Mexican items, coffee, juice, etc. Value for money paid. Would not hesitate to stay there.
