No elevator. Very difficult for my 90 year old mother to use stairs.

Musty smell in lower level room. They could not offer another room as they were booked up and according to the front desk many of the rooms smelled damp

The reason for our stay at the Aurora Inn was to visit our son who lives nearby in Chagrin Falls. I visit frequently and considered the Aurora Inn a good option. However, for the money I spent it was not a good deal. I work very hard for my money and I expect to get my money's worth when I stay at a hotel. The Inn is a very charming setting and a beautiful historic building, but it just didn't measure up. The Inn is charming and smells very fresh and clean. We were greeted and welcomed warmly upon our arrival. But our stay was not without issues. The original problem started our first night there when the AC unit in our room stopped working in the middle of the night. The temperature was in the 90's outdoors and the room was hot and stuffy. We brought it to the attention of the front desk the next morning and maintenance was called. The maintenance man met us in our room and told us that the unit was going to be swapped out and it would take an hour. No follow up was completed with us to let us know that the unit was not swapped out. And nobody checked to see if see if things were fixed to our satisfaction. As it turns out the maintenance man only hit the reset button and did not swap out the unit. We had already tried that. The AC unit continued to fail the remainder of our stay. When it was brought to the attention of the front desk, I was told that I was supposed to unplug it, hit the reset button, and that it was on us to correct that problem. When I said we did those things, we were told that due to the hot weather that all the guests had their units on at night and that the units just can't keep up and it either freezes up or stops working altogether. The next night it ran intermittently but we did not sleep at all our last night there. We took turns getting up every hour to unplug and plug in the unit to reset it. The hotel is pet friendly and while this is a nice gesture, the room below ours had two large dogs who barked incessantly when their owners were gone our second night and we had difficulty falling asleep due to their incessant barking, and then we were awakened again at 6 AM by the their barking again. Unfortunately due to the ill working AC and incessant dogs barking, it was really a very unpleasant stay. For the money we paid we expected our room to be kept cool and not have to be expected to maintain it and not have the nuisance of large dogs barking late into the night/early in the morning. When these concerns were brought up to hotel staff, they were dismissed. Matter of fact, I was told to take a complementary bottle of water for my trouble. It was incredibly insulting. Following our stay I shared my concerns and nobody reached out to us from the hotel. Furthermore, at checkout when I shared my concerns with the the front desk, the staff actually had the audacity to tell me she keeps her apartment super cold so she can sleep and be comfortable. I told her we did not have that option. She said, "sorry about that". I am sorry about it. The expectation of staying in a hotel during the summer includes a working AC unit. The bottle of water was an absolute insult as a way to mitigate this concern.
