Hampton Inn Jonesville/Elkin

A few times a year we make the trip back and further between FL and OH and this hotel is one we have stopped at multiple times over the years. There were many reasons that we loved it, and delightful things that set it apart from other similar hotels In the area. But on our most recent visit last week, we were disappointed to see it's become more corporate, more cookie cutter, and all the cozy, homey touches that made it so special have vanished. As Hilton Diamond members, we have seen many Hilton brand properties,and we make note of the special ones when we travel! Three changes that made us sad: 1) This hotel always decorated for every holiday and season. It's always so beautiful and the creative team there always made the lobby and entryway feel charming and magical. With their most recent remodel, those things are all gone and have been replaced by shelving racks, I pulled into the parking lot expecting to see Easter bunnies and spring flowers, but - nothing. This isn't a bad thing, just a disappointing change. 2) Desks. My husband and I are both writers and one of the things we loved about this location was that they had dedicated writing desks in their rooms. The remodel replaced the big desks with a little round cafe table and one chair. we asked if we paid for an upgrade if there were any rooms that still had desks and nope - they are all gone. 3) Sofas. The regular rooms also used to have a sofa inside and it was a large comfy sofa where we used to cuddle up and watch movies after a long day of driving. The sofas have also been removed. Again, not tragic, but one of the reason we chose this place over others in the area. Three things we still love: 1) The staff here is still TOP NOTCH. Everyone we have ever interacted with at this hotel is so warm and friendly and helpful. We always feel welcomed here and they constantly make us smile. 2) Upon arrival, they have snacks in the lobby, a popcorn maker, apples and bananas and freshly baked cookies, along with coffee and tea in the lobby. We were happy to see that wasn't eliminated. After a long day of driving, we always appreciate the warm hospitality and invitation to have a little treat. :) 3) Location - this location is very conveniently located off I-77 and there is a gas station right next door to fill up on the next morning when we set out to drive again. Also, there is a fantastic local Italian restaurant that delivers to the hotel called Roma Italian. One bad thing: 1) This hotel used to be very reasonable for a one night stay - but this last stay it was $269.22 total for one night - for a standard room. Maybe it's gone up due to their remodeling - or maybe because it was a week before Easter? Regardless, that is way too much for a Hampton Inn on a Friday night in a small town. Verdict? We may go back to staying in Mt. Airy or try the one in Dobson. I know change is inevitable in life, but these changes took a hotel we were enchanted with and broke the spell.

Breakfast

Breakfast was fair. Problem was no place to sit to eat. Beds were very comfortable and quiet. Lady at counter very friendly and welcoming.

More space for breakfast seats. Hopefully with remodel they will expand dining area.

Every person on the staff was so friendly and kind

We stayed one night while on the road and it was very nice. The building is older, but has recently been updated and is very pleasant. We had a 2 queen room, which while not large, was very comfortable with a small table and comfortable chair, large tv and nice sized bathroom. We have stayed in “fancier” Hamptons, but for a one night stay on the road this was great and I would definitely stay again, and therefore gave it a “5”. The staff was very friendly, especially Portia who greeted us on arrival. There was also a very nice Mexican restaurant just steps up the street.

There was no restaurant around but that’s not their fault. Just take out places.

Staff was very polite and helpful. We left a coat in the room accidently. We contacted staff by phone and they arranged to mail it back to us. Room was very comfortable in spite of downstairs temporary construction.
