We were due to stay for one week at the Hotel Belmont on Jan 26th, however due to a historic snowstorm in Toronto the evening of Jan 26th, our flight was delayed and were only able to check in on Jan 27th. We informed the hotel of the delay as soon as we found out at the airport. The response we received was standard corporate speak that cancellations before 6pm the day before are subject to penalty. We explained that this was a “force majeure” and that it was our intention to check in on time. We even showed the initial flight boarding pass and the delayed flight boarding pass, but they didn’t care and insisted on charging us "late cancellation fees" despite the fact that the hotel was clearly half empty when we arrived. We truly can’t stress how chaotic the situation was at Toronto Airport that night (it was all over the news!). And yet the receptionist upon arrival expressed surprise, and mentioned that they never have such delays with their Ontario clients. We ended up checking out three days early due to the staff and management blasé attitude to the whole ordeal. We strongly recommend avoiding the Belmont if you are looking for an establishment with respectful and responsive customer service.
