breakfast not good / corridors smelling

Stayed here while moving my daughter in to Penn State. Booked this to have a little extra space for things. The room met expectations, although I will say the bedroom barely allows for space to walk around the bed. There is no good place to put a suitcase (there was not a rack provided for one). I ended up with my suitcase in the living room area so we could walk in the bedroom. The biggest issue was the "breakfast included". They do not staff the breakfast area. Not even for MOVE IN WEEK. The front desk girl was trying to keep breakfast stocked, and there was often no coffee, no creamer, no stirrers, and no food other than cereal and maybe pastries. When there was food put out, it was microwaved breakfast sandwiches and she would put out four when there were 10 people loitering trying to find something to eat. I gave up on it entirely and got groceries for my room.

Linens were fresh and pretty. Room was ample. Parking lot well lit. After the arrival, people at front were pleasant enough . Engineer came as promised and fixed the door squeaks but couldn't fix the misaligned door that would not close. (probably a more involved fix).

Breakfast was included in reservation and we were told hot breakfast in the morning when we arrived. The next morning we were told that was only weekends. Instead they offered cereal, bottled juice, yogurt bananas from behind the reservation desk--they hand it to you. Then the weekend arrived (Sat. morning) and same type of breakfast. An array of food in the frig when we arrived and a hair in the sink. Door between bed and bath and bed and living squeaked and they seemed surprised that I did not want that fixed after I left . I explained I bought a suite so I could get up early without disturbing hubby. Also, squeak to bathroom at night?! Also door between bed and living had to be pulled hard to close which defeats the purpose of a quiet exit. It was mis aligned. Candidly--i can't remember now if I was ever able to shut it or just pulled it to leave a crack letting in sound and light THe check in person was terse, maybe unsure of himself? (Generally reception person smiles). After all he is the one who gave wrong info on breakfast.

This location covers all of the basics: friendly and helpful staff, and a clean room. Being a Residence Inn, it did lack some things we were expecting like dish soap, kitchen towels, and a few other bathroom basics. The pots and pans were very old and we would not have use them for cooking. The gym was nice and clean, but the treadmill‘s are in really bad shape if you’re looking to work out. We didn’t use the pool area, but we also didn’t see anyone maintaining it and it didn’t look exceptionally clean. Overall, it was a fine stay but not exceptional.
