Courtyard Beckley

This is my go-to hotel when I’m in town, but I was less than pleased with the accommodations. There were renovations happening which was not posted on the website. My shower look like it had not been cleaned. I was given the wrong room and had to go back to the front desk to be assigned to the right room. The couch and foot stole were stained and dirty. The Starbucks machine was broken. I can say the waitress at the bistro was phenomenal! I was extremely disappointed with Marriott because it’s always too-notch, but not so much this time, especially for the price I paid.

Was not aware of the building being renovated. Also this location advertised Starbucks located in the hotel and we were told we only had a list of about 6 items to eat and no Starbucks products were available. In addition no breakfast until 7pm. Very disappointing. Had I know I would have booked elsewhere for cheaper

We needed a place to stay for one night while making our way back from Hilton Head, and since we needed a suite with two separate sleeping areas, options in Beckley were limited. When I saw a Courtyard by Marriott available, I was optimistic—I've had consistently good experiences with Courtyards in the past and usually find them clean, modern, and reliable. Unfortunately, this location did not live up to that standard. First impressions were rough: the entire hotel is undergoing construction, and the exterior looked so run-down that my husband actually asked if it was even open. I had known there was some renovation happening, but I wasn’t prepared for how extensive (and uninviting) it would be. The main lobby, however, was nicely updated and did feel more like the Courtyard brand I’m familiar with—modern, clean, and welcoming. But as soon as you leave the lobby, it’s a different story. The hallways and rooms are clearly dated and in need of attention. Wallpaper was peeling by the elevators and inside our room as well, where there were visible rips and general wear. The bathroom was especially disappointing—old fixtures, missing or discolored caulk, and what looked like wallpaper in the shower area made it feel far from clean. I honestly didn’t feel comfortable showering there. The toilet was small and outdated, and overall, the room felt dark and uninviting. The suite itself was spacious, which we appreciated—it gave us plenty of room to spread out. But the layout could’ve been improved by including a designated dining area. As it was, we ended up eating around a rolling desk. The pool was a nice perk, though it was a bit cold and there was no hot tub. On the plus side, it was a quiet and mostly comfortable place to sleep for the night, and I had no issues using mobile check-in or the digital key through the Marriott app, which made arrival easy and contactless. That said, I was ready to leave after just one night. If I had known how dated the hotel was beyond the lobby, I might have opted for the Best Western Suites across the street. I understand Beckley is a smaller, rural area and expectations should be adjusted accordingly, but for the price and the Marriott name, I had hoped for more—especially after coming from a beautiful, well-kept Marriott in Hilton Head. The contrast was jarring.

The front desk person and the cafe person were helpful and courteous. The room was clean.

We were unaware that the hotel was under construction for renovation. The side door to primary parking area was closed... very inconvenient. The front entry was partially blocked by fencing as well.
