Garner Hotel Hamburg Nord by IHG

The staff spoke clear english which made check in a breeze, while it was very hot here, they issued us all with fans which were perfect, rooms were decent for the price, for a solo traveller, this hotel was brilliant! There is a bus stop right around the corner which takes you to Barmbek or rübenkamp which allow you access to the city via the S1. I havent tried the breakfast, however the hotel is really good for the price and definitely will be returning on my next visit to Hamburg!

Nothing really to complain about, for what the hotel is, the price matches it. There was a few marks on the wall but they werent noticeable unless you looked closely, didn't affect me at all.

Das Personal und das Frühstück sind toll

Ich hatte dreimal einen Stromausfall und es dauerte jedes mal immer ca eine Stunde bis die Sicherung wieder rein gemacht wurde. Der Tv funktionierte nicht konnte erst am nächsten Tag überprüft werden (Tag der Abreise) Auf dem Zimmer befand sich bei Anreise in beiden Zimmern eine Brille wo und versucht wurde zu erklären das diese vom Zimmerkontrolleur wären.

1. der Rezeptionist meinte zum einchecken, das er mein Zimmer anders weiter vermieten hätte, da der andere Gast 1 Woche bleibt und nicht wie ich 2 Nächte. Ausweichangebot: ein Zimmer im gleichen Standard, nur mit enthaltenen Stromkasten für das gesamte Hotel. Es müsste das Personal in dieses Zimmer, um Sicherungen wieder rein zu machen. Aktuelles Zimmer: Jalousien gehen nicht zum verschließen, volle Sonne in das Zimmer. 2 Lage: im Umkreis von 5 Metern Tankstellen, MC Donalds, Burger King…. Unfassbar laut und störend 3. Bettwäsche und Handtücher stinken Extrem nach Chemie und verursachen Hautausschlag und-jucken 4. keinen Mülleimer , nur einen Minimülleimer im Bad 5. sehr kleines Bad, mit nur einem Miniwaschbecken 6. minimalistische Einrichtung, wirkt kalt und unwillkommen

Rooms design is clever: the available space is used very well. For a solo traveller the single bed rooms are absolutely sufficient to stay a couple of nights. Of course the size is not huge but a good price-to-performance ratio. Good shower and high quality soap and shampoo options installed. Breakfast options were decent and I was allowed to generously pack a few sandwiches for to-go on Sunday. The daily room cleaning was exceptional 10/10. I would have felt comfortable eating from the floor and the bed always looked like a new bed.

I gave 9/10 so the following should be considered suggestions rather than complaints. I didn't immediately realize where to hang the towels but that's on me: there was a hook mounted on the bathroom door from the inside. The location has the issue of ongoing construction works nearby but that is not the fault of the hotel. I prefer the mattress to be even harder but it was already okay and that is a personal preference rather than the hotel's issue. An electric kettle for boiling water would have been a great addition in the room. One or two less standard breakfast options could elevate the breakfast: like English baked beans or a salmon or tuna or a self-made tomato salad or the hyped matcha or a hot chocolate drink e.g. I understand this would increase the breakfast price so perhaps it is not a good strategic idea unless enough customers appreciate this. The colors and furniture of the interior: ultimately one of the main giveaways to me that it is not a high-end hotel. The turquoise theme was a conscious choice as can be seen from the paintings in the hallways and fitting furniture. But perhaps some walls could benefit from an intentional darker color than white, and the couches, tables, or chairs around the breakfast and lounge area could be replaced with a higher quality option eventually. Also the carpets do not look high quality to me. I understand to achieve a consistently better look in these terms would require a major investment. I just wanted to voice my impression to offer a perspective. Some of the staff could improve their German or English to get better along. But overall they were kind and helpful which is arguably a universal language and more important.

Grundsätzlich kein schlechtes Hotel. Parkplätze gibt es kostenpflichtig am Hotel und mit etwas Glück in den anliegenden Straßen auch kostenlos.

Gemessen am Preis von etwa 120 EUR/Nacht war die Leistung für mich eher enttäuschend. Das Zimmer war relativ hellhörig, sodass bspw. nächtliches Duschen im Nachbarzimmer oder sprechende Menschen im Flur für mich störend laut war. Das Zimmer mit Queensize-Bett (geteilte Matratzen) war so eng, dass ein Aufenthalt zum Arbeiten nicht sinnvoll möglich wäre (Kein Tisch, nur ein Hocker, der gerade so noch neben das Bett passt). Das Frühstück war auch in Ordnung, allerdings nicht wie von booking beworben "außergewöhnlich gut". Die Auswahl an Brotbelag war relativ klein, die Brötchen eher matschig. Zudem wurde "Highspeed-Internet" in einer teureren Buchungsoption beworben. Das ist Quatsch, da alle Gäste das gleiche freie WLAN verwenden.
