"For the price this was a great place."

8.0

My husband and I visited the Corning museum in Corning, NY. I looked around for a hotel when we decided to go there and nothing was available for the Saturday night we would be there. I looked north as we would be headed to Rochester next and found Painted Post and the Erwin Motel. This is the original motorcourt of years gone by. I noticed a photo in the office that had huge trees (now gone) in the middle of the u-shaped complex. Rooms are very small but doable for an overnight. The room was clean and the bed okay. For $50 I really can't complain (Corning hotels would have all been over $100). It had free wifi but it worked poorly. We would probably have to be near the office to get the speed up.

"Very small"

6.0

Rooms were very small. Wireless internet did not work. Front desk was okay and friendly. If your looking for a cheap place to stay for a day or two this wouldn't be bad. Any more than that and you might be cramped in the room and shower. Erwinna tavern next door was a plus though.

"diamond in the rough"

10.0

i felt like we were in the middle of nowhere until i started calling hotels. they all wanted several 100+++ for one night. i tried Erwin. It was clean, hot showers, nice beds, and big guest room with a fridge all for just $65. nice people up front too with a small continental breakfast. not a 5 star hotel but 5 stars in my opinion for the value!!!!

"small"

4.0

This is a low budget motel about 7 miles out of Corning. Rooms are tiny, but clean. Location is quiet. If you want to enjoy Cornings attractions for $50 a night in high summer, than take it. If you can afford better, than skip this place.

"simple room."

8.0

As the first review says, nothing fancy. The motel is rather small, but if you just need a place to crash while moving on, this fits the bill. I don't remember what I paid, but it was affordable.

"No response to request for information/reservation"

2.0

I used the Erwin Motel web site twice to request a reservation. My email appeared to go through but I never got a response. The cost for rooms is not listed on the web site. I drove past the motel on my way out of town after staying at Budget Inn in East Corning (great place) It seemed to be open. There were cars parked outside room. If you want to stay at Erwin, you'd better phone for information.

"AVOID!"

2.0

We were looking for an inexpensive place to stay, and based on the two reviews we read on tripadvisor decided to give the Erwin a try (especially after the owners said the rooms were "renovated"). We booked a queen size room (the largest they have before the suites) which we were told was "roomy and renovated." We arrived in the afternoon and got our money back and left within an hour: our "roomy" room as about 9x10, filthy carpets with dead bugs, stains on the sheets, horrible bed, peeling wallpaper, poorly lit, insecure locks on the doors, awful smell and horribly small towels. They also said they had wifi; we tried to get it when we first got there and couldn't. We called and they said we'd have to go out in the parking lot to use it, and they didn't know the password that was needed. When we asked to go to a renovated room they told us we were in one! Want a good hotel for this area that is inexpensive? Go to the Great Value Hotel in Painted Post!

"one star motel with adequate facilities, good value"

4.0

The rooms was very small but clean. The bathroom had been recently upgraded and was clean. This is a place to sleep and shower and move on. Nothing fancy but not expensive, half the cost of nearby chain motels. Don't drink the coffee. The bed needs to be retired. Keep your expectations low and you will enjoy saving the money.

"Good value."

8.0

The room was not large, but it was clean, comfortable, and quiet. The owners were very helpful and pleasant. They referred me to a wonderful state park nearby that was great for dog walking and also had a nice restaurant with spectacular views of the mountains.

"Great Value for Price"

8.0

Couldn't believe the rate charged by this motel relative to its overall quality and location near Corning. It was cheaper than the cheapest of the other hotels I could find nearby that had reviews (mostly negative). The only nice hotels in this price range were 30 minutes away in Bath NY. This hotel was apparently renovated a few years ago (estimated 2006). Even so, there were some minor cosmetic defects, but it was definitely clean and not dirty, which is all I care about. On a cold spring night, the heating system worked flawlessly. Lots of cable TV channels. Mattress was definitely softer than I prefer, but I slept fine. Hot water was good. Wifi Internet did not work for me, but not sure if it was my laptop (first time using it in a long time) and I also did not try to trouble shoot it with the owner because it was late and it wasn't worth it to me. Room did not have shampoo, which is to be expected in this price range. Soap was provided. I did notice that there was a stack of maybe 100 hand written comments from visitors in the office lobby. I glanced through them and they were all super positive. "Great job with the renovation" "Amazing deal" "See you next year". I was a bit surprised at how inexpensive this place was; since their website didn't have photos, I had braced myself for disappointment but was pleasantly surprised. Room was very small, which did not matter to me. If you are a high maintenance traveler not concerned about price, this place might not impress you. But for a budget conscious business traveler that is not high maintenance, or for a budget recreational traveler and you don't need a huge room, you will find this place a super value.
