Athenaeum Hotel

This is an old Hotel, built 1881, and its’ floors are a bit creaky and uneven. But that adds to the charm. Amazing porches with fantastic views of Lake Chautauqua. Bed was comfortable and room was clean.

the hotel & surrounding area very unique. Didnt like that the room was so small & no refrigerator the continental breakfast was not great. the restaurant as closed only bar food and only 1 restaurant in the area

I stayed at the Athenaeum Hotel as part of a Road Scholar group for six nights. This is not a modern, cookie-cutter hotel, but a wonderful experience from a bygone age. I had a single room, which although small was adequate. It had a twin bed, which is very unusual in hotels nowadays, a dresser, closet, TV, armchair, nightstand, alarm clock, and small bathroom. The room was clean and charmingly decorated. The bathroom was also very clean, everything functioned as needed, and the towels were changed every day ( which is not the case in most hotels post-Pandemic). Meals were served buffet style in the restaurant and were delicious. There was a cash bar available. There is only one lift, which is a bit of a drawback, but then this hotel was built over 140 years ago. The view over the lake was stunning and the hotel has a large wrap-around porch furnished with rockers for those who just want to relax. However, the main asset of this hotel is its wonderful staff. I became ill partway through my stay and the staff could not have been more kind and helpful in quite a difficult situation. I hope to return someday to this hidden gem.

A beautiful place to rest.

Beautiful historic hotel and town. It's like going back in time 150 years. The whole little town is very well kept. The staff at the hotel is wonderfull.Already planning to come back.

Service is excellent. Rooms are small but attractive and very clean. Daily cleaning service is excellent. Food varies from very good to excellent and ambience is quiet and elegant. We were there pre-season, and some outside areas needed paint, but I assume they would do that before the season that doesn't start until July 1.

Our stay was unique and opened our eyes to an area we've never seen. We enjoy looking at the map and picking places that look different for our overnight stays during road trips that lead us here. Off season for this area made for a great rate. Wonderful time.

We had such a lovely stay. Great jazz night and cocktails on veranda!

I have to admit that this was a beautiful hotel. It's old and the rooms are nice but old. Everything was pretty much shut down by the time we were there in Sept. Would have liked to have had more to do.

The restaurant hadn’t yet opened for the season when were in Chautauqua, so we ordered dinner from the bar and ate outside on the porch, overlooking the lake, on a beautiful spring evening. Our burgers were very good and the view was lovely. The service was just a wee bit slow, probably because the bar was overwhelmed by a large group from the Road Scholar program who were staying in the hotel.
