Hotel Tetora Kyoto Station

It is located on the main road which makes it very easy to locate. However the sound of noisy vehicles moving up and down the street can wake you up if you are a light sleeper. It is very near to the Aeon Mall, The people at the reception speak English and they allowed us to check in a bit early.

The pillows provided in the rooms were very hard making it difficult to sleep on the first night. They do have some additional pillows which you can take from near the reception area. They also collected additional money for a child apart from city taxes even though I had given complete details during booking and had booked 2 rooms for 2 adults and 2 children. The explanation was something I didn't understand due to language barrier. The bathrooms are tiny and there is hardly any space in the rooms to keep the suitcases.

Friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast was definitely an acquired taste, but helpfully provided. There was access to cold drinks all day and alcohol like shochu and sake at certain times of the evening.

They didn’t clean the shower well — there was still hair from previous guests. The toilet drain was clogged, and every time you flushed, you had to hope it wouldn’t overflow. The worst part was that the fridge had black mold inside — not a small spot, but a large patch. I asked for it to be cleaned or replaced, and they did take care of it the next day. What was nice about the hotel, though, was the extra service they provided: free breakfast in the morning, soft drinks available all day, a happy hour with free liquor from 19:00 to 20:30, an evening meal, and even a midnight snack until the rice ran out. One thing I noticed was that only one staff member spoke English; the others had to use a translator, which made communication a bit slow at times.

The location, close to the station, is great. The staff is very nice, and the room was clean. They also offer some free drinks and something to eat in the evening.

The dining room is a bit small, we sometimes found it challenging to find a spot for breakfast. The coffee is not good, although I know it isn't part of the Japanese culture. There is only one lift, which is always busy, so you'll have to be patient with that.

My stay at Tetora Hotel was wonderful. They have a reservable private bath on the first floor. My room was very comfortable with a tub in my bathroom. The breakfasts were different every day with several choices. The location was directly across the street from a 4 story mall and a couple if blocks to the train station. The staff were very helpful. I really enjoyed my 3 days here.
