"Stinky Bedroom!"

The ground-floor bedroom with facilities for disabled guest was good. Breakfast was fine, but set out in a manner which made the queue very slow moving.

We booked 2 adjacent ground floor, non-smoking rooms as one of our party has mobility problems and requires support. The room with facilities for disabled (no 1) was fine, but the second room (4 - on the opposite side of the corridor) smelled ansolutely awful - we presume of animals - to such an extent we could not stay in there. The receptionist suggested we should open the window (the first thing we did, on entering the room and being hit by the pungent smell!), then claimed they clean the rooms after each pet stay. We asked her to come and smell the room for herself, but she declined. We were told the only other vailable room was on the first floor and contained 3 single beds (we'd booked a large double). This was far from ideal as there is no lift at the property and we were no longer close to room 1, but we had to accept as we could not sleep with the smell in room 4. The stairwell smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. The hallway carpet outside room 14 was threadbare. The bathroom in room 14 was tiny and there was black mould on the shower grout. There were cigarette burn holes in the bedlinen. The receptionist did not look up, speak, smile or make eye contact with us, following our complaint. Would we stay here again? Absolutely not!
