Garvault House

Fantastische locatie in de middle of nowhere, maar dat is juist de charme. Mooi ingericht met veel curiosa wat de sfeer van het huis accentueert. De optionele warme maaltijd was perfect, de verhalen aan de gezamenlijke grote tafel erg de moeite waard. Goede rol van de gastheer.

Het ontbijt was een beetje karig. Het verhaal van de kok dat alles van ver gehaald moet worden klopt maar één plakje bacon en één ei heb ik nergens anders in Scotland meegemaakt.

It was lovely! The landscape is just breathtaking, and the place has such a special vibe. We loved sharing dinner with the other guests, and also getting to know Ollie, loved his stories!

The only thing is that the heating wasn't working in our bedroom, they explained us the reasons and we completely understood the situation and that it was something punctual. We were also offered extra blankets which helped because despite all, it was pretty cold.

The location is amazing: remote, desolately beautiful — a true escape from civilization. Secondly, the staff were incredibly eager to help and friendly. The dinner was a good, hearty home-cooked meal (however, there’s no menu; you get what the (very good) chef is cooking. The property was originally a fishing lodge, and there are a lot of charming, rustic touches throughout (but not fancy — if you are looking for chic, jumped-up rustic, this is not it— which I was glad about, but set expectations appropriately)

Unfortunately, a number of things were disappointing for us. First, our room was uncomfortably cold throughout our stay. We asked whether the radiator could be turned up, but were told the heat would come on automatically (if it did, we couldn’t tell). Secondly, our room had a small East-facing window that did not have black-out curtains, so we had light coming into the room at 4am that we could do nothing about. Finally, the wi-fi only works in about half of the hotel. I understand that this is a retreat (no TVs, and we were happy about that), but it meant we couldn’t plan our route for the next day in our own room. All that said, if you come prepared, it is a unique and fun place to stay.

Sehr freundliche, hilfsbereite Gastgeber! Alle Gäste sitzen zu den Mahlzeiten zusammen und in dieser wunderbaren Atmosphäre entstehen viele Gespräche! Die Lage ist aussergewöhnlich schön und ruhig.

Sehr nette und authentische Gastgeber. Wurde im Rahmen meiner Motorrad Schottland Reise seit langem geplant und trifft zu 120% meine Erwartungen. Ich werde definitiv wieder kommen.
