Really little thing…cups for hit drinks at the spa!

Lovely area, easy walk to the high street. Spacious comfortable rooms. Character building. We enjoyed a great massage in the spa.

We made use of the spa who were running a special. The receptionist at the spa didn’t tell us about the special and charged us full price.

Had the best signature treatment from Laura Buckland. Absolutely lovely person, was considerate and sweet and did everything I could ever ask for.

Location, surrounding nature

Outdated room, dirty carpets, squeaking bed. Restaurant and spa lacks of cleaning and basic tlc

I really wanted to like the hotel, it’s old and probably has history. But this is really reflected in the dated decor and dark rooms/corridoors. Reception staff couldn’t bring themselves to even look up or greet us when we approached the desk - never a good start for me. He really wasn’t happy to be there checking people in, what a shame. Same at the bar, one guy on, very busy, not a smile in sight, I wonder if the staff are treated fairly here? Drinks at the bar are very expensive but the terrace was nice on a sunny day. The corridors were dim and badly signposted, it’s like a maze! We found the food at dinner and breakfast mediocre at best. The worst part by far was the room, extremely outdated and very small. The bathroom, we struggled to get 2 people in with the door open, compact and not very well lit. The air con made a rattling noise and the windows barely opened to let fresh air in. I wouldn’t want to stay here again I’m afraid. We only needed it for our murder mystery weekend but glad we weren’t there for any longer. I don’t like to be so negative but it was very expensive for a very underwhelming stay I’m afraid.
