The location was fine for what we needed.

We paid over £150 for a standard double and sofa bed. The sofa bed for my 7 year old child was bigger and more comfortable than our "double bed". Our smaller than double bed was rock solid and we could feel the springs in it. When we complained to the reception manager he was more than unhelpful and said all he could offer was a complimentary stay for another time. We were here for a competition and may not go to that one instead. When we asked for some sort of refund he said he couldn't do that, first saying we needed to go through booking.com and then saying we needed to wait for his manager to contact us on Monday. We will wait and see if this happens...

Great stay, exceeded expectations. Beds were so comfortable and breakfast had everything you could want. Will definitely return.

Great location, especially if you're visiting Colchester Zoo, as it's only a few minutes away by car. There are also shops and several restaurants nearby, around a 7–8 minute drive from the hotel. The swimming pool, sauna, and steam room were a nice bonus and gave us plenty to do during our stay. The main bed was very comfortable and we all slept well. The staff were amazing throughout our visit. The restaurant team were particularly friendly and welcoming towards our little one, which made a big difference. It was also great that children under 3 eat for free in the restaurant. Our son really enjoyed his stay and felt very comfortable here.

The leisure area could have been cleaner. During our visit, some bins were overflowing and there was hair and used tissues on the floor, which was a little disappointing. While the main bed was very comfortable, the sofa bed was quite hard and not very comfortable to sleep on.

The convenience of this location for us is first rate. We're easily able to park and the rooms are of a good size. Staff at this location are friendly and efficient.

The food leaves a lot to be desired. Breakfast is not great and many of the items were over-cooked. There was a lack of certain items too as they'd run out. I asked for poached eggs which came but they tasted of vinegar. The hotel claims to be ace on cleanliness. The skirting boards and walls in our room were not clean.

Had family room with sofa bed. The sofa bed was very uncomfortable - pieces sticking in your back so had to put the sofa cushions on top for the children to sleep on.

Mattress too soft. Room a little worn in places, but clean.
