Heartland Hotel Glacier Country

Very close to where we do helihike. Staff are very helpful.

Good stay, nice room, comfy bed and the hotel is in a great location. Hotel staff great in telling us where to go to see the Glacier including providing a map.

Shoebox room. Had to haul luggage up stairs (no lifts!) into tiniest room. There was less than a gap around the bed to manoeuvre including carrying our luggage to the racks idiotically located on the furthest wall from the entry door. Carpark is located on the other side of the building which nutcase designed this place. What's worse next door were the backpackers who drank swore and continued well into the morning so you could get NO sleep. We stayed in a self contained 2 storey villa the night before which was CHEAPER than this place. We dreaded coming back to rest in this claustrophobic hole in the wall.

Shoe box - should have stayed at Frans Josef up the road after a long day on the road even the published photos of hotel bar / restaurant was closed and front desk suggested we go over the road to the pub run by the them !

Room was ok if a little small. We’d requested a quiet room and were allocated a ground floor room with the backpackers hostel just behind us. We were kept awake at night by the backpackers talking outside and were awoken at 05.45 by departing coach tour passengers who were all in rooms on the floor above. No thought had been given to room allocation. Worst night’s sleep of 1 month touring N.Z.

Will definitely stay again in this hotel. Relaxing, clean, friendly staff and good location. Close to restaurants and grocery.

Very small rooms overlooking the road. Felt congested. OK for a single traveler only.

On the plus side, the Heartland Hotel Glacier Country in Fox Glacier Village seems to have been recently refurbished throughout, and our rooms were nicely appointed and very comfortable. We had a refrigerator and hot water kettle in the room, so we could prepare our own cold breakfasts (no microwave); we asked for dishes/silverware at the desk. The hotel does have a restaurant and bar, although we did not dine there. The hotel is conveniently located along and set back from the main street. There are several cafe style restaurants, a well-stocked small market, and a gas station in town, which is basically just two blocks long. On the negative side, the rooms can be noisy, and the hotel was overrun with poor-behaved daily tour bus groups. To their credit, the hotel moved us to a quieter room for the 2nd night when we asked. Be sure you ask for a 2nd floor room to avoid creaking ceilings, and ask for a room on a side wing to avoid the noise from the street and hostel behind the hotel. We would recommend the Heartland Hotel Glacier Country, with our room location caveats.

Weirdly allocated disabled accommodation!?! Neither of us has any disability & found the room rather tired & in need to upgrading. Car parking was available & the hotel is conveniently positioned for basic, local amenities. Fox Glacier & Lake Matheson are a short drive.
