Guest House Maru

I was there alone so there weren't any other travellers to talk to, however the staff is all friends and they were hanging out there when I arrived. One of the staff spoke good English so we chatted for a couple of hours before he had to head home. They let me try some of there home-grown tea which was very nice. It's very clean inside and it looks like they did a really nice renovation while retaining the character of an old Japanese home. Driving to the location and parking was easy.

The front door was locked when I arrived shortly after 5pm, so I had to go around the back and wave at the staff through the window to get let in.

別館に宿泊しました、とても暖かく過ごすことができました。

２段ベッドで寝ましたが、換気が出来ていないのか埃っぽい匂いがしました。そこが改善して頂けたら、広さも充分でまた泊まりたいと思う宿でした。

清潔で設備も充実していました！ 周りの景色も良く、駅近、近くにコンビニもありとても便利でした！

まる従業員の子（小学生）？が元気いっぱいに『おはようございます！』と子供の日に手伝いをしながら挨拶してくれたのが印象深かった。

共有ルームに置いてある町の紹介資料と商品が入り混じっていて商品が安っぽく観えた。宿泊した部屋の窓の鍵が１箇所施錠出来ていなかった。３台の駐車スペース管理不足。部屋の電球が１箇所点かず。

Friendly and welcoming hosts, very comfortable stay with everything you need in a quiet and very interesting town and area.

I looooved this guest house and only wish I had given myself more time in Kashima to take better advantage of this wonderful chilled out, peaceful place. Hiroya was a very kindly host. The beautiful music, the fantastic social / relaxation spaces in the communal areas. And a very spacious traditional Japanese room.

It was all good. Just be aware that pretty much all food places in this more historic locale generally close by 5pm, but in a car 5 mins, or a pleasant stroll 20 mins will bring you to some very nice eateries closer to the more recent town.
