Firstly, when we arrived we rang the ring doorbell and it appeared they were not expecting us and left us waiting on the doorstep until I rang again and he said they were looking for our booking. When we gained access finally, he told us via the phone to open a door. This room had clearly been slept in and was filthy. We had to tell him it was dirty. He then proceeded to direct us around the property, attempting to open multiple doors, whilst watching us on the cameras. We walked up and down stairs, through gardens and the kitchen whilst he instructed us to open doors- all that were locked or we even opened one with someone staying in it and inside. This was extremely unprofessional and made us very worried for our stay. I asked if he had a clean room for us to stay and he hesitated to confirm this. Eventually we got to our room. On the phone the male said we would find a continental breakfast in the kitchen in the morning but ‘it’s not the best’ this set up our expectations to be very low. Very disappointed in the attitude of staff who kept stating “it is what is is” whilst sending us on a tour of the building to find a room I’m not even sure he knew existed?. There was no free WiFi as advertised, we had to purchase a ‘EE add on’ for £10. It is only free if you already have EE BT Broadband. It was a very strange set up as it appeared people were living in the house and when we went down for breakfast, the fridge was full of other people’s food and it was very confusing what we could or couldn’t use. Overall, the room was below standard, dirty looking hand soap dispensers and we didn’t feel safe knowing that someone could be opening the door at any moment like we were instructed to do when we arrived.

A while back I booked Goldbeaters House.. The afternoon before they cancelled the booking. Said the room had been trashed. Caused a problem such a late cancellation but I was sympathetic. Booked Goldbeaters House again.. On the morning of leaving for the hotel, luckily I read my emails in the car just about to leave. Cancelled again! On the morning!!! And guess what. Was told the room had been trashed. A bit of a coincidence??? Of course there can be coincidences, but the occupiers of the rooms appear to know the owner and other residents. I am sure this was not a coincidence. I believe my room was promised to someone they know. Also suspicious in that on my call to the owner, I was told he'd phone back to confirm. He didn't. I had to phone again. I can't guarantee that, but it's all very clunk click there (have stayed previously). I will not be staying again and urge anyone considering here to be extremely cautious. Luckily, en route to London, we booked a Premier Inn in Borehamwood. Not that much more expensive, but guaranteed a comfortable room and the staff there were most helpful. I rarely post a bad review. Rather say nothing than bad mouth somebody, but this was awful. Never again
