River Ridge Lodge

The location is really nice - lovely property in a quiet neighborhood. This is probably the most beautiful area in Nova Scotia. The room was clean with modern and functional furniture (Scandinavian IKEA style) and the mattress by IKEA was comfortable... everything looked really promising...

... however Despite the fact that the property is in a very quiet neighborhood and that bed was really comfy we spent tree sleepless nights here (we booked/paid for four nights but decided to leave the last night for a place where we could catch up on our sleep before a long road trip ahead). Our room - Room #1 - was located on the ground floor: next to main entrance and a staircase, across the dining area, and bellow two other rooms the space that is usually reserved for living room. At all times you could hear people walking up and down, around the rooms, and showering and flushing toilet. The hosts seem to be well aware of this fact since they asked us "was it noisy?" - to our "yes, indeed it was really noisy and impossible to sleep", the answer was "it is an old house and this is our cheapest room "... while we do understand that the house is old and that it cannot be sound proofed as modern can (we travelled all over the Maritimes and also New England) and we stayed in many old and heritage houses, and never experiences this kind of noise... that is most likely why this part of the house is usually a living area - next to the entrance, staircase, and dining room and below other rooms. However, in this case it was turned into a room. So, it might be that this area - in this case Room #1 - should simply not be rented at all. In addition we did not book a "cheep" room - the price was similar to the other ones, certainly not a bargain - and we anyway were not going for "cheap" but a nice room in one of the most beautiful areas of Nova Scotia. The host did apologized for the noise, with a note and a little basket of goodies - which was kind and we really appreciated - but the fact is that this room #1 is not suitable for renting since it does not provide the basic thing this kind of B&B should provide: restful stay and a good night sleep.

Very pretty site with a barn and access to the river.

We had a lovely stay at the lodge. The room and grounds are splendid. Our Hosts we very helpful, and they provided us with great tips for where to go and what to do in the area. It is a peaceful place. We will recommend it to our friends and family

Beautiful! Comfortable, welcoming. The hosts are so kind and caring. I felt like I was at the home of a relative. I can’t wait to come here again.

Breakfast was traditional German and the host told us a lot about local places to visit and had great trail maps! The bed was comfortable and once settled in we were 'at home'. They lent us bikes and equipment and it was super. Very nice area to explore by bike.

Check in had to be very specified. It could have been better to have a self' check in ' experience rather than trying to know details of timing or how much toast we might eat. It would have been nice to have access to drinks at home or a bathtub.

Serene setting. Lovely well maintained heritage house. Gracious host.

Was not as close to Mahone Bay as we thought it would be.
