Agbo Hotel

The staff at Agbo went out of their way to make sure that the guests were happy at all times. The room was comfortable, with a good outlook They organised two excursions (ancient site and elephant safari) and a departing car for us Pool was lovely and well maintained Good breakfast, with lovely helpful girl serving us

Not much It is a tuk tuk ride to other restaurants etc

Nice spacious room, friendly staff

We booked a room with a view that looked over the lake and mountains, it was stunning and would really recommend getting a room with a view if you are booking here. We used the free bikes available to explore the local area and cycled round the lake whilst the sun set. The pool was clean and refreshing. We ate dinner and breakfast in the hotel and both were good. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The room was really big and the air con was great and stayed on even when you weren't in the room so when you came back it was cold.

We stayed here to cycle around the ruins in Polonnaruwa but it turns out they were quite a ride away, I think about 13km which in the heat would have been too much for us so we had to drive there and rent bikes when we got there. We did manage to use the free bikes in the hotel later in the day to cycle round the lake though.

The monkeys were a little aggressive

Beautiful room overlooking the lake and warm swimming pool. Friendly staff. Very clean and comfortable.

From the hotel one has a beautiful view over a lake, a nature reserve and mountains in the distance. Mr. Tharanga Bandara, the Operations Manager is continually "on the ball": during meals he is present in the restaurant, during check-out in the reception area. And he gave us excellent service in arranging a chauffeured car to take us on a sightseeing tour while driving us to our next destination. The hotel was build some 5 years ago, so essentially a new facility. Maintenance is good as all equipment worked to satisfaction. The room was spacy with Airco in good condition, ceiling fan, TV, electric water-kettle with tea/coffee and bottled water, excellent bathroom with warm/cold water, good shower with enough water-pressure . Clean, nice beds, etc. Balcony overviewing the lake. Western breakfast was available as well as western food for dinner though we enjoyed the butter fried cuttle fish and fried rice for dinner. And, not to forget, a nice swimming pool to relax at and enjoy a swim.

This is not a complaint but jokingly we like to mention that the monkeys chasing each other over the "hot tin roof" over our heads beat our alarm clock by 15 minutes in the morning. At times the WiFi was not functioning very well, but after some young people checked out, we had an excellent WiFi connection. Apparently the functioning of the WiFi is dependent on the number of users going on-line at the same time.

The location and overall Hospitality. From House keeping staff to GM Mr. Tharanga have been really helpful. Good choice of Ala-carte / room service food. Decent size pool and great size bedrooms with all basic necessities.

Speed of service could be improved

The service was superb: some things went wrong on the first night (as they do) and management instantlty sent a team of people to sort everything out, which they did. The room was huge and very comfortable with a lovely view. The pool looked beautiful but unfortuntaely it rained while we were there so we didn't get to use it. The food and service int he restaurant were top class.

Lack of hot water.
