"Don't even think about staying here"

2.0

I am not picky. I believe I get what I pay for. Not so with the Rodeway Inn in Gadsden, AL. We had a coupon from a hotel book - $49.99 plus tax with two beds, and I saw this same hotel on my Choice Hotels app. It was only for one night, so we decided to give it a try. We should have known when we pulled into the pot-holed parking lot that it was a mistake. The guy behind the desk was very nice but didn’t give us a copy of the receipt until I asked for one in a future trip to the office. And, when I gave him my Choice Hotel member ID, he told me he would connect it so I received points. I never did. When we entered our room, my husband said it was definitely bare bones. Yeah. No coffee cups, etc., and there was left-over coffee in the machine. No towels. No pillowcases. We didn’t realize this all at once. It took three trips to the office. At this stage, the office-guy should have said, “Let me look” or “Let’s get you another room.” Nope. We should have just left. But we didn’t. We went out to dinner, then returned to find that the microwave was filthy and there were holes in the bedsheets. And the clean towels were the smallest we ever saw and had stains on some of them. We never even considered using the shower. I must say, the sheets did appear clean. The mattresses were ok. The surfaces seemed clean. The carpet seemed clean up to a couple of inches from the wall. The TV was good. When we got up the next morning and headed to the promised continental breakfast (1/2 hour after the start time) the serving room was dark, nothing was out, and no one was behind the office desk. At this stage we gave up and decided… lesson learned. We would heartily recommend avoiding this at any cost.

If possible, I would give a minus one! This hotel was an actual health hazzard. I wanted to just sleep in our car after seeing the room. Sheets were dirty, bathroom had cigarette ashes along the floor. Desk person came to change our sheets when my husband went back to office to complain. We slept on top of new sheets...throwing covers/blankets on floor. Did not shower ...kept our belongings in car. I covered sink area with my paper towels...did not want my dental products on the counter! The mirror was even soiled...had not been cleaned at all. We had been driving for 10 hours so my husband needed some rest. Up and out at crack of dawn.....did not bother even going to Breakfast area....too scared by the condition of our room.

"Budget motel, but worth a visit"

10.0

The room has had a basic remodel: new tv, refrigerator and most importantly new heat and air. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. The breakfast had the smallest selection I have seen lately, but with the money we saved on the room, we could buy breakfast at the Jack's at the next exit. So while it is a basic, budget motel it is worth a visit if you want to save money.

"Surprised after reviews"

8.0

After reading the reviews I was pleasantly surprised that the curtains were the worse thing about the room. They were tattered. The room was clean, had a fridge and microwave, nice pillows. We wanted a clean place to sleep. We got one. I wasn't worried about letting my 2 year old granddaughter play. I would recommend it.

"The type of motel you have nightmares about every time you book another room"

2.0

My stomach started sinking as soon as we spotted Rodeway Inn down the street. It was a small, dismal looking, groungy place, and I could tell I wasn't the only one thinking 'oh no' as I exchanged looks with my companions as we pulled in. But... the reservation had already been made, the price was right, and we were tired. Incense filled our noses as we stepped into the meager lobby to check in. Sadly, there was no complimentary coffee of most motels. The clerk was friendly enough, and we parked outside our designated room. I was the first one in, carrying a small load, and I didn't take two steps before this awful, indescribable, but disgusting scent hit me like a muggy wall, and I stopped in my tracks with a grimace. I couldn't take another step. Retreating to fresher air, I informed my companions, and we returned to the front and were provided politely, but without apology, with another first floor room. This one smelled of old cigarette smoke. Since second story was out of the question for our needs, we reluctantly took it as the only other room available, smothered the place in room freshener, unloaded, and gingerly sat on stained quilts to eat our fast-growing cool supper. Stains of anonymous yellow and grungy black marred the lower walls and ceiling. A dismantled smoke detector decorated the room with bright orange cords hanging in twirls. Smudged and dusty floors prevented us from walking bare. Really, though, it was the three beetles - one dead and trapped in the vent of the AC, the other two crawling up the walls - that prevented us from finishing our meals. The brave male in our small company took away the beetles, and we sat huddled on our beds, the muffled TV playing as we tried to forget. I could list another dozen grievances including stained, musty towels, too-short raggedy curtains, and soap that spawned acne, but instead, I will only conclude that the continental breakfast was meager even by motel standards and we left, poorly rested and unhappy, with only an apple. Needless to say, I would sooner sleep in my car than pay a dollar to stay there ever again, and I have no doubt this is the motel I will shudder about before ever vbooking another room.
