Super 8 by Wyndham Youngstown/Austintown

The price

Entire hotel smells bad, as if everyone is smoking. All the sheets, curtains, hallway smell bad from smoking. But when you pay such little money, you can't expect better.

Right off highway

Front desk lady was rude because I got there at 1020 pm to check in, which I called and said I wouldn’t arrive till between 10-11 pm. Was on a side street right by a bar/strip club and parking lot was dark.

I did not get breakfast -- but it seemed to be very carb-heavy. I just took a pack of crackers. Still, it is OK for getting something quick. The room seemed to be recently updated (furniture, lighting, TV, decor) and the hallway was in the process of getting new carpet. The room was very comfortable, had a great TV, great selection of channels including premium channels (but, I really didn't have time to watch TV), the desk had nearby electric outlet in this room (for my next stay I had a room with an out-of-the-way outlet. So, not all rooms are equal), the lighting next to beds was great, the bathroom light surrounding the mirror was great, the fact that the exhaust fan had its own switch separate from the light switch was great. And, the hair dryer had a built-in night light --making it unnecessary to turn on the bright bathroom lite when going to the bathroom in the dark. The price was great at this time -- about $70. The price jumped up to about $110 for my next stay a month later. So, for this particular stay -- it was a bargain. (Pricing I guess is not stationary.) For $70, this can't be beat. For $110, it starts to get a little pricey -- but, maybe this is the best price available for the particular time period. For comparison, I also stayed at a Motel 6 in Youngstown for only about $51. It was not good. The Super 8 is in a completely different class -- far superior.

Parking lot needs repaving. But there is plenty of parking. Breakfast should be less carb- heavy. Maybe hard-boiled eggs could be provided. Maybe yogurt.

Location is good for travelers on I-80. But the location on an industrial road is not ideal if someone is vacationing (obviously), tho it is close to several restaurants and gas stations. So, it is convenient for traveling through. The place seems like it has been recently updated with modern lighting, TVs, etc. New carpet has been installed in hallways and is not yet complete. Bathroom has night light built into the hair dryer -- which is great (Don't have to turn on a bright bathroom lite late at night.) The exhaust fan has its own switch -- which is great. (Don't have to hear a loud fan when the light is on). The mirror light is great. It surrounds the mirror. The TV has a good picture. The cable channel selection is great, far superior to many hotels/motels. The lights next to the beds are bright enough to read by -- which is great. (Sometimes motel lights next to beds are so dim that they are practically useless.)

The tub drain was not working (water filled while taking shower), and the toilet seemed to be connected to that drain and was not flushing well. The desk did not have an easily accessible electric outlet. The only nearby outlet was located behind the furniture that the TV was on, and it was difficult to get to, and only one space was available. So, better access to an outlet is needed. Parking lot needs repaving.

Convenient location right off I80. Beds were comfortable. Hardwood floors were definitely better than carpet. Breakfast was adequate.

The room smelled funny and was in a sketchy location.
