"Visited during the Rio Olympic Games"

6.0

This hotel looks like it would be a 4 star from the outside. The website makes the rooms look huge. We found our room to be very small and did not even have room for a small sofa. The beds and pillows however were very good. The bathrooms are very tired with mould on the ceilings and looking a little worse for wear. They do not provide face washers (this is my first hotel that does not provide them) nor do the rooms have a kettle/tea/coffee making facilities. . The buffet breakfast was plentiful, however, unless your into breads, there is little choice. There was one two slice toaster for the entire hotel guests to use. We ordered pizza's one night from room service and had to send them back twice as the dough was uncooked. Eventually we ate around the edges and left the soggy middle as it was late and we were hungry. The staff were friendly and tried hard to please but dont expect them to know English. The pool area was lovely and the pool clean. The hotel is situated in a nice area with a supermarket within walking distance.

"A good old business hotel"

6.0

This hotel has focus on business trip or short weekends trips. Its not a family resort. The hotel is clean and suits the needs of a business traveler but it doesn't has the newest facilities. The gym is not well equipped and the restaurant is not top of the line. The location is good, but you will need a taxi almost all the time.

"Too expensive for what it offers"

4.0

I used to stay quite often at Transamerica Prime in 2012-2013 for business purposes and in Jul-2016 I stayed once again. It has practically not changed. Again I stayed for business trip and the company for which I work has far better prices than those shown at the reception desk. If you are paying the regular rate, the hotel is excruciatingly expensive. And the overall quality is just fair, notwithstanding. This review will take into consideration the daily rate that I paid for, which is on par with hotels like Novotel. The hotel façade is quite imposing and modern, however, the rooms are quite outdated. The bed sheets are of rather low quality and the TV does not work very well (even though I do not care much for TV, it can be quite disappointing if you consider that it is supposed to be a 4-star hotel). The bathroom is very simple and resembles one of 1980s. The shower door does not close tightly and many other parts feel dodgy. One more lowlight goes to the breakfast, which would be perfectly fine were it a Ibis hotel. The food is quite stale, not great variety and the coffee is far from good. A positive side goes to the reception desk, that was professional and efficient. Also, the hotel location is very good if you need to be in Barra region. Very close to many shopping centres and a few minutes walk to the beach. In summary, it really seems that the hotel is undergoing some managerial issue. As if cost control is not bothered by rewarding its customers with cheap products and poor maintenance. It has a great potential to be a fantastic hotel, but for now it is just a potential.

"Overall it was just ok"

6.0

The hotel location is relatively good for those ones that are not mainly looking for staying by the beach and need to be at Barra for a business reason. The room I stayed at (409.2) had an often bad smell and a noise everytime after you flush the toilet. Other than that everything else was alright, including the breakfast and overall services. Thanks.

"Nice rooms, but services and staffs are not friendly"

6.0

This hotel is very good located, in the centre of the Barra da Tijuca, you will arrive anywhere in few minutes, the rooms are nice, so confortables. But the services aren`t good enough and the staffs never smiles.

"Nice rooms, but service leaves a lot to be desired"

6.0

Rooms were large and airy. However, service is absolutely subpar for an establishment in this price range. One of the front desk attendants flat out refused to order me a cab, lazily giving me a list of numbers and asking me to make the call myself. Another one simply said they don't give out "medicine" to patrons due to potential liability issues - the first time ever, in 30+ countries, I was refused an aspirin at a front desk.

"Quiet and very nice view in the evening from the terrace"

6.0

Coming from Rio, with it's busy life and crowded streets, going to Barra, it is quite relaxed. It is walking distance to the beach. there is a sort of ferry taking you over a small canal, to reach the beach. Beaches where empty, but there are a few small local places where you can get a drink or beer. Friendly locals! The hotel has a mini bar, and I don't mean the bar in your room :-) Just a small place downstairs where you can get a drink. This is a hotel to stay for business and has all the usual facilities you need. The rooms have terraces, with a nice view on Barra district. Taxi;s waiting outside bring you to where you need to be. It feels safe, it is comfortable and the hotel is "fit for purpose".
