Salina Hotel

Staff were very attentive and eager to help at all times. Large room which was cleaned well each day. And of course their dog Bo! Great family run hotel in reaching distance of all main tourist attractions and the centre via a short taxi / scooter ride.

One member of staff seemed agitated that we had rented a bicycle from someone other than the Hotel. We gave him the benefit of the doubt in the first instance but we then had a second unpleasant experience with this same staff member, and so calling it out - we do not speak Vietnamese and made this clear, yet he seemed to get very agitated, borderline aggressive, towards us because we could not understand him one night. Other staff members seemed to feel awkward at his behaviour too, apologising to us on his behalf. A simple entry into Google Translate cleared things up but this episode really put a dampener on our final night at the Hotel. Rude and intimidating behaviour for a point which, when it was understood, was extremely trivial! On the whole the stay was fantastic but we found this one staff member to be unnecessarily rude / aggressive at times.

Nice street. Not much in the immediate area but easily walkable. The staff were friendly and helpful.

only thing to note is the location is a bit too far to walk into Ninh Bihn or to the train station however Grabs etc are so cheap and staff happily booked taxis for us.

There weren’t many guests when we stayed here and the property appears to be family owned and run. There was no one at the front desk when we arrived and we blindly walked into the back which looked like someone’s home kitchen. No one spoke English there and they all looked at us blankly like we walked into their home 😆 They called out to someone we are assuming is their son upstairs to help us check in. The son seemed reluctant to deal with hotel guests, however he was still polite. The hotel room is spacious and clean, and includes air conditioning. However, there is no ac in the lobby areas, and the lights are always turned off. If you leave your room and go downstairs, you need to feel for the lights to turn them on, on your way down. We are assuming they are conserving energy. The hotel provides a delicious breakfast and at first when we asked if they had a shuttle to the train station they said they didn’t, but seemed to have a change of heart and called out their son to drive us. On our way there, the rain quickly turned to thunderstorm and we were so grateful for the ride. We tried to offer them money for the ride, but they wouldn’t take it. In the beginning, we were unsure about the hotel and service here, but we think they usually host local travelers and rarely guests that don’t speak Vietnamese. We realize this is a small town compared to Hanoi and this family run hotel is doing their best and conserving energy when they can 😄

It was fine for what we paid for. The host did offer breakfast in the morning though we didn't take it as we were leaving early.

Struggled quite a bit with the language barrier trying to communicate with the host. Just didn't feel super homey. The bed was hard and the sheets were quite thin. Lots of mosquitos in the lobby.
