Fjalladyrd - Modrudalur a Fjollum

In einem traditionellen Torf Haus zu übernachten war ein schönes Erlebnis. Die Einrichtung war modern und schön. Die Betten waren sehr bequem. Es fehlte mir aber ein Fernseher. Das Frühstück… das Highlight war das selbst gebackenes Brot! Leider war das Personal ein wenig überfordert. Bei 8 bis 10 Personen die gleichzeitig gegessen haben fehlte ständig was: die Säfte, die Servierten, die Messer, der Käse, das Gebäck, die Teller. Das Geschirr wurde zwar abgeräumt aber die Tische nicht abgewischt. Schade …

Very remote and quiet part of Iceland. Rooms had beautiful mountain views. Rooms felt clean but also a bit dusty as if we were the first guests in a long while. Kitchen was clean and adequate, had all necessary pots/pans, water boiler, dishwasher, but no additional amenities such as oil, sugar, salt/pepper. For the one floor, we only had one shared shower which was not a problem but could become one if it were busier. Showers had low water pressure. Overall, would stay here again.

Pictures don’t do any justice for this place. It was an absolute hidden gem- the perfect overnight stop after catching the sunset at Studlagil Canyon on the way to Myvatn. I picked this “hotel” because I didn’t want to drive in pitch darkness (on winding mountain roads for 2.5 hours to Myvatn after sundown). Thank goodness I did, because it started snowing and there was a blizzard that came out of nowhere, making all the dark winding roads slippery, and covered with black ice. It was only about an hour drive to Fjalladyrd - Modrudalur All the facilities were new and on the high end. The quality of wood they used to build the main dining hall was gorgeous imported wood, and custom milled. In the photos, the buildings look older and dated but we were pleasantly surprised by how new, cozy, and modern this hotel was. The property has been a working farm that’s been in the family for over 200 years. They recently built the hotel portion on the property. And I had the best lamb I’ve ever had in my life- as if it was fresh

This wasn’t just an overnight stay, this was an adventure! The lodging itself was amazing- super modern, tasteful, roomy and clean, clean clean. But what was even more special was the setting- the beautiful little church across the street, the cafe with a sod roof (the guesthouse has a sod roof too), and all the farm animals running around - dogs, sheep, goats. We even got to see the Arctic fox kits playing next to their den which is right next to the guest house. The food in the cafe, same owner as the guest house, was excellent - we had both breakfast and dinner there. I highly recommend this place - it was one of the highlights of our two week trip around eastern and northeastern Iceland.
