Rafaelhoteles Atocha

Spotless but overpriced, with indifferent service. The Good: Spotlessly clean rooms and excellent water pressure. The Bad: The location is misleading. Despite having "Atocha" in the name and overlooking the tracks, it’s a 15-minute walk to the actual station. In the 40C (115F) summer heat, this felt endless. It’s poorly connected to central sights, forcing us to hail street cabs as Uber/Bolt were unresponsive. The Rooms & Service: It took three attempts to get a proper room (the first smelled of construction, the second had the wrong bed setup). The main bed had a slight "taco effect" (sagging in the middle), and the child's armchair bed dipped at the feet. Front desk staff were totally indifferent and never or barely greeted us, which is a shame and a rare sight in Latin countries. The complimentary lobby water was left out until it turned sour by afternoon. Value: Extremely overpriced for what you get. Skip the €17 hotel breakfast (which we did) and walk to Cristal Cafe nearby for a fantastic €5-6 sandwich and coffee combo.
