Sleep Inn Newberry - Crane

Didn’t try the breakfast, but enjoyed coffee in the room. That’s a plus.

TV Guide card did not match the channels. Seemed to be off by “2”. Number shown was 2 higher than actual number for that channel. For example, CNN was 11 on the card, but 9 on the TV.

The hotel seems to be newer and is secluded off the highway. We arrived around 11:30 PM and check in was very quick.

Upon arrival, we were informed that there was a larger number of guests in town due to a wedding but staff proceeded to inform us that the guests were Amish and the Amish community in the area are now all related so they are in need of traveling to be able to get married. It may have not been meant in a judgmental manner, however, hearing staff discuss customers cultural differences in what seemed to be a negative manner caused for discomfort. The information shared by staff lacked relevance beyond being informed of a higher number of guests currently staying at the hotel. Upon entry to the room, it seemed clean enough but there were some crumbs on the floor from what I would assume were previous guests and spots on counters which seemed to not have been fully cleaned off. A live bed bug was found on the bed, crawling from the pillow. We proceeded to kill the bed bug and take it in a paper cup to the front desk. At that time when we informed the staff member calmly, they stated “I highly doubt it’s a bed bug.” The staff member quickly looked in the cup and set it aside. She said they would show the manager in the morning. She proceeded to move us rooms on a different floor (from second floor to the fourth floor) because they are aware of the level of care that is provided by the cleaning staff for the fourth floor. It was mentioned by the staff member that the house keeping for the fourth floor will receive tips because of the level of care they provide, while the cleaning staff for other floors will complain about not receiving tips because “they won’t go above and beyond” and “kids these days just don’t want to work.” We recognize that bed bugs, honestly bugs of any kind, are common in hotels due to the high level of traffic and if it had not been near 1 AM by the time of this occurrence, we would have chosen to leave and locate a different place for accommodations to be provided.

Everything was good. Room was a little warm and even though thermostat was lowered the unit didnt really feel cool. Overall clean and quiet.

Room 414. Dead bugs on the window sill. Floor was wet by the window. Walls were wet. I told the front desk about the bugs, wet floor and walls. I said I would be back later and check in to see if the issues had been resolved. When I came back, nothing had been done.

Courteous staff that isn't overbearing though, but very responsive. Stephanie at check in was AWESOME

The pool was clearly not heating normally - while not a big deal and the kiddos enjoyed, little notice or sign to the effect would have been appreciated.

Room very nice

This was a nice stay. The bed was comfortable and all the staff were very nice. Our bathroom could've been cleaned a little better, but overall it was good. Delicious, hot breakfast. We'd stay there again.

This is a very nice facility but not close to anything which is fine for me but others may not like it. There are many things not far away, just not next door. The staff was awesome and the room was very clean and comfortable. I will definitely stay there again.
