Superb hotel - a proper old world experience. The staff (everybody: in the shop, the bar, the restaurant, the cleaning staff) were consummate professionals and did everything possible to make us feel welcome. I would unhesitatingly recommend staying here.

A home away from home. A peaceful oasis in Jerusalem. The American Colony is one of my favorite places in the world — a sanctuary of calm, history, and elegance. Every time I stay here, I’m reminded why it’s such a rare gem. It has become my home away from home with the most brilliant staff on the planet who give this already special hotel a beautiful touch. Breakfast in the courtyard is one of life’s simple pleasures — strong Arabic coffee, fresh pastries, and the sound of the fountains mingling with morning conversation. The evenings are equally magical; the bar, with its mix of locals, correspondents, and travelers, feels like a salon of ideas. It’s just magical in every way!

I relocated to Jerusalem and stayed at the Colony for about two months. The value for money of this place comes in so many different aspects, not all quantifiable! Historical building close to the Old City, breathing history and culture from every pore as all lodges here over decades. The food is sophisticated but homie, rooms status impeccable every day. And the staff. What a warm family welcome to the city and its social fabric. As a solo traveler I never felt lonely, quite the opposite as everyone willing to genuinely help. For family travelers. I saw the kindness accompanying paying attention to each family member. Magical place immersed in history, a true experience of what Jerusalem is. I have stayed in five star hotels around the globe that have been incredible. But the American Colony is in a class of it's own. Entering the building is like entering a little oasis far removed from the hustle and bustle outside. That the hotel is exquisitely laid out is not in question - beautiful gardens, little water features, a courtyard in the main building, a summer garden outside for meal during warmer months, a gorgeous intimate bar and brasserie inside for the cooler months. There is a decent fitness center outside and a tempting swimming pool. The rooms whether small or big are lovely with every attention to detail - each one different to the other with an incredible history behind each part of the hotel. The breakfast is outstanding as indeed is all the food at the hotel. I have never had a bad meal ever but I do love the shwarama on a Friday evening. But what sets the Colony apart is it's staff - when you return there (as I have over and over again) they welcome you home. And that is what it feels like - Diane smiling at the front desk and everyone there remembers your name, your preferences and what you enjoy having for breakfast. I would love to name every single staff member there because every single staff member makes your visit memorable....but the list would just be too long. They are the kindest, most caring, attentive staff I have ever had the pleasure of meeting....so much so that they are no longer hotel staff but friends. Thank you American Colony for making every visit special - you are a world class hotel with exceptional service and unparalleled staff. I already miss you all and I can't wait to visit again.
