voco Edinburgh - Royal Terrace by IHG

Great location - away from the noise, crowds and traffic of the city center, but only a ten- fifteen minute walk to the Old Town. Wonderful walking paths behind the hotel/up the hill. Reception staff very good, and helpful. Room - we got a king suite on the ground floor (ie, in the basement, but it did have windows onto a garden) which was nice and roomy, though a rather odd layout, and tho the main part of the room was clean, the areas behind furniture and curtains had a lot of dust and debris. Breakfast - very good selection of high quality foods, both hot and cold, and made-to-order oatmeal was perfect. Breakfast staff were a mixed lot - some great, others rather cold.

Great lo ation across from a park. Overall pretty nice.

Floors were very creaky all over the room, so noisy to walk on if anyone is a light sleeper, at least in my room (103).

Stayed at the Voco as part of an Easy Jet holiday this May bank holiday. Did look at booking separately but was just as expensive. Firstly the hotel is in an excellent location and great if you do not have a car with you to get to the city centre. The issue is the hotel rooms themselves and amount paid for what was essentially a tiny box room. I appreciate it was a bank holiday and the marathon so prices hiked but this was a tad excessive. The first room we were shown was room 3 in the basement which was tiny, had little natural light, a window that overlooked a hole and the smell of damp which was over powering. I found the room to be exceptionally claustrophobic and it stank. After raising my concerns we were kindly moved to a room upstairs. Whilst I appreciate the hotel was busy, this room, room 33 the room was barely bigger than the double bed in it. Sat right under the stairs so was noisy and there were scuff marks on walls and furniture I’d assume because it was impossible to move freely around the room due to its tiny size. For a 4 star hotel I’d have expected all rooms to be 4 star and not just some. This is in no way a 4 star hotel. Whilst clean I was soo sad and disappointed again for the cost and what we got. It was not good value nor fair at all. Breakfast was good. Basic but tasty buffet style. Just soo disappointed with the room and the extreme overpricing here. Same with bar prices be careful!

Tout était parfait. Mention spéciale tout particulièrement pour notre serveur du petit déjeuner qui est particulièrement sympathique, professionnel et bienveillant. Nous avons échangé quelques mots en français d’ailleurs. Un véritable rayon de soleil au petit déjeuner.

Vriendelijkheid personeel, makkelijk bereikbaar met openbaar vervoer, goed gelegen om alles te bezoeken, goede bedden, ruime en stille kamer, proper sanitair, koffiezet en waterkoker aanwezig, lekker en uitgebreid ontbijt.

Het eten in het restaurant van het hotel zelf vonden wij niet zo lekker en best wel duur voor wat het was.
