Hill House Inn

Looks okay from the outside but inside the property is very shabby, a bit musky, and overall not in good condition. Probably one of the worst hotel experiences I've had – it's definitely not worth the price.

The poor experience really started at check in for absolutely no particular reason. The impression we both got we didn't say to each other for about an hour. Then one of said "boy, shes not very friendly at the desk, i don't think she wants to be here". I was feeling more of unprofessional, rude, not paying attention, and yeah, didn't think she wanted to be there or be in hospitality. Arriving in our room the only i'll call dangerous thing was a large screw that belonged to the ice box lid thst could of easily fell into ice (lucky it was empty) that could of been a trip to the emergency room if not noticed. The ocean view was not an ocean view, it was on the first floor on the end that can't see Any ocean. There was a light that was out. I notified hotels.com they said the staff said they accomodated an early check in and it was to late to change rooms. There was no conversation about being early, im not sure 1 hour would of made any difference. The only thing the desk clerk said was "let me check if your room is ready" we could of walked around until 4pm, not a big deal.

Property is seriously in need of maintenance and updating.

TV didn't work properly, but th internet was excellent. I couldn't figure out how to adjust the temperature in the room. Check in required a trip downtown as the lobby was closed. A receipt was unavailable when I returned my keys. Room was spacious and clean. Water instantly hot. Personnel were friendly and helpful.

Disappointed the restaurant wasn't open and not pointed out in the website.

Loved the nostalgic old home. It was very quiet and clean. I loved the soft comfortable blue chair to watch t.v. Enjoyed walking down to the stores and beach. Beautiful area.

Old and dated but clean and reasonably priced considering the area. Good coffee in the lobby :)

Lovely location. Hotel is historic and rooms are large but could do with some updating. Bed was comfortable and clean, water was hot and good pressure for shower. Coffee maker in room but no fridge. Easy walk into gorgeous town for shopping and eating and great coast walks. Room needed more light and colour, and better electrical sockets.

Disappointing and overpriced. From the outside, the property looks inviting and fine. But for $160 we expected more then shabby and decrepit furnishing, dirty shredded and stained curtains, lumpy mattresses, or spiderwebs-laced windows.The reception was dismal, unprofessional, and unwelcoming. My advice, look for a better venue this is not worth the price.

Was recommended by a friend and a family member. We like the quietness of the place except for one night and it was addressed. The place is kept in order: the furniture, wallpaper, carpet, window treatment, etc... are from another era. In our room, it was kept in an excellent condition and cleaned. The cleaning staff are certainly chosen carefully for respecting the history of the place. You can walk to the main street to get food, coffee and more. We enjoyed our stay in Mendocino. Don't forget to go to Good Life Cafe & Bakery, to the Patterson's Pub and to Trillium Cafe in all 3 you will not regret it. Did I mention that the people in Mendocino are so nice :)
