Everything. The smell of the room was just horrible. It smelled like old cigarettes and no matter the time it still smelled so bad. It’s like the smell imbedded itself into the walls of the room. Do not come here.

I booked a stay for a friend at the Red Roof Inn in Chapel Hill near UNC, and it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. When he arrived, the room was in an unacceptable condition. There was visible mold, and as someone with allergies, this was a serious health concern for me. The room had an unpleasant smell, and the overall cleanliness was far below what I would expect from any hotel. I immediately contacted the staff and explained the situation several times, including the fact that I’m allergic to mold. Unfortunately, I received no meaningful help, no alternative solution, and absolutely no concern for my health or comfort. The customer service was dismissive and unprofessional. It was so bad that I ended up leaving and forfeiting my reservation completely because he didn’t feel safe staying there. Despite the circumstances, they refused to refund me, even though my friend could not stay in the room due to the condition it was in. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Poor cleanliness, poor management, and zero customer care. I strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

I liked the location and our rooms were very clean. It was quiet and the parking lot was well managed. The breakfast was very nice.

We saw 2 cockroaches, had to ask for towels because the room did not come with them, and the smoke detector was detached.
