Misfah Old House

A unique traditional Omani house renovated to be a mini village with multiple buildings in the oasis of the most beautiful city in Oman - Misfah. The setting was breathtaking with our Balcony room overlooking date palms, bananas and the sound of the water rushing in and out of the faluj system was relaxing and looking out at the layered mountains of Oman. The food was beyond expectation and was so healthy. Traditional Omani food cooked by the family offered choice and was healthy and full of flavour for both Dinner and breakfast. Dinner was a choice of 3 dishes including the best fish curry i have ever tasted, chicken curry and vegetables all served with trimmings of hommus, fresh Omani bread and salad. Breakfast was dhal and Omani bread (sweet version like crepes) with eggs, yoghurt, cereals, breads etc topped off with Omani coffee (or tea). The staff were like members of the family, the owner came to greet us on the first morning at breakfast and this was extra special. The staff were knowledgeable about everything to do in Misfah. The main hiking trail ran straight next to the property so we used the hotel as a base. We loved the house dog Tali who was the most well mannered dog we have ever come across that did not encroach on our space or jump up and who accompanied us on our three hikes and was the ultimate hiking companion leading us down the trail and leading us to small water ponds. The room was beautiful and the balcony the best part with almost 180o views under the ceiling fans in the excellent rocker chairs each evening. The room has fly screens on the windows which was excellent to keep the wildlife out. The fridge in the room was an added bonus. Checking in is a casual affair with no formal reception, just welcoming in the door of the home and being offered hospitality and rest. There is so much local area reading information in the front room and the ability to buy some local products. Exceptionally clean rooms and outside areas.

We travel light with small backpacks so the 100+ stairs to access the property didn't worry us but someone with mobility issues may struggle and may need to think about why they would want to visit Misfah as everything requires walking stairs and hiking. The staff were more than willing to carry our backpacks and even said they carry guests up and down if the stairs are an issue! It didn't bother us - but like all Omani bathrooms we have seen - the bathroom is a wet room and a little dated so people wanting modern and brand new may be disappointed. There is no TV which didn't bother us as we were enjoying walking and being in nature - but some travellers may want this. I regret not going here earlier and bringing my friends and family to such a beautiful hotel.

Die Zimmer sind sehr eng. Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit Gemeinschaftsbad. Das Bad ist etwas veraltet.

Cudowna lokalizacja w gaju palmowym. Super miła obsługa kultywująca długowieczne tradycje rodzinne. Dobrze doradzają wycieczki piesze i zwiedzanie.
