Hotel Koyo

スタッフの対応、心遣いは最高でした。

We stayed two nights at Hotel Koyo after reading good reviews about its service. The hospitality was great. The staff brought our luggage to our room using a trolley. Our dinner was in a private room and we had a personal staff which tended to our needs throughout the meal. The staff was courteous and even shared with us a little story about how pineapple cider was created in Yamagata using pineapple flavouring because the land in Yamagata was too cold and not suitable to grow pineapples. Every dish in our dinner was well-plated and Hotel Koyo had some creative plating ideas. For example, the hotel went to the extra mile of carving out a huge block of ice in the shape of a Kamakura and served us sashimi slices inside the Kamakura. Perhaps this was a time-limited design because we visited close to the Kamakura festival. We also asked for an upgrade to our Yamagata beef to Yonezawa beef and the hotel delivered our request on a short notice. Other than the food, the hotel had a large selection of yukatas with many beautiful designs and we were free to try on whichever yukata we wanted for both nights of our stay. Instead of usual tea bags, the hotel gave us a big bag of tea leaves which we could bring back as a souvenir. Our room was big and the beds were comfy. We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Koyo.

We missed the hotel shuttle bus as our train arrived late due to the heavy snow. We thought that the shuttle bus timings were synchronised with train arrivals and that they would wait for the passengers from the train to arrive before driving off. The station staff helped us to phone the hotel but instead of dispatching a bus right away, the hotel asked us to wait for the next bus which would arrive in an hours' time. As a result, we waited close to an hour at the station until the next shuttle bus, which was the last bus of the day. By the time the shuttle bus arrived, the sky has already turned dark. In fact, it turned out that there were no other passengers other than us on this shuttle bus, so we wasted an hour of our time. Our room came with a private onsen but it was small and looked like a regular bath tub. Although we upgraded our beef to Yonezawa beef, we could not really savour the difference and we preferred the taste of Yamagata beef.

半露天風呂付きの客室を利用したが、窓から見えるのが駐車場でガッカリした。桜が咲いていたので少し紛れたが、値段と釣り合っているとは思えなかった。あれでは、半露天風呂の意味もないと感じた。

食事が夜も朝のバイキングも大変美味しかったです

刺青の方がお風呂😌♨に入っていたのが、残念でした😅

食事中のお皿を下げるタイミングが少し 強引な場面がありました それ以外は設備も快適さも満足できました
