70's Hostel

Loved the vibe, the people and Maria the hostess.

I have spent a bit over a week there and I met a bunch of interesting people. The place attracts certain people mostly young intellectuals who want to enjoy the charm of Ericeira and do some surfing. For me it was a practical base as it is a walking distance from shops, laundry, surfing schools, tennis courts and a short uber rides to breathtaking nature and beaches with waters suitable for surfing. A short walk takes me to the old town with an endless supply of highly rated restaurants and local Portuguese cafés. The owner Maria is an absolutely highlight to my trip. She was very helpful from day one, accommodating and I felt like we did get along very well. What I liked about the hostel is that the rules Maria keeps for everyone’s comfort about not partying there and keep quiet after 23 which are really appreciated. I also enjoyed access to kitchen and cooked fresh stuff straight from the market. As a solo traveler also meeting other solo people from both sexes, the hostel felt very safe.

It can feel a bit crowded in the bathroom, rooms and also in the kitchen. Especially when it is full house and many want to cook or shower at the same time. Also I would have appreciated a bit more space in the fridge. But it wasn’t a major deal as everyone there was accommodating and people were generally respectful.

There was a kitchen and space to hang up my surf stuff

The six bedroom dorm was really small and there was no chargers in the top bed. The bathroom was quite dirty and there was no place to hang your stuff. For this price, I cannot recommend this Hostel.

I had a great time at the 70‘s hostel - Maria was a wonderful and welcoming host. The hostel is cute and very well located. The vibe was great and I met nice people there. Would definitely come back in the future :)
