Suburban Studios at the University

Inside was way more kept than outside. Comfortable and clean inside and the staff was kind friendly and helpful. Great location for dropping kids at Coastal Csrolina University. I’d stay here again. Very convenient.

Had an issue with ac in room. Manager/owner bent over backwards to correct issue and get us into a room that was better. Will stay again.

This is an Econolodge… both names are on the sign, clean enough, nothing fancy, just expected more than a mini fridge and microwave for an efficiency.

We switched rooms as soon as we walked into our intended rooms because the air conditioner that was in the wall has cracks all around it and light coming through from outside. There were dead roaches all around it and the whole room smelled overwhelmingly like bleach. We moved rooms, thankfully. The new room was better-ish, but all the furniture was either rusty or water damaged, including the lamps and fridge. The headboard lights didn't work, and there was a huge gap under the door which we had to cover up so, again, roaches didn't crawl under at night. Which, coming from NYC, we're used to roaches, but they were everywhere! This property needs an exterminator. Basically, the photos online look NOTHING like the actual rooms. Not sure how this place gets a 7/10..... The pool looked nice, but it rained, so I can't comment on the integrity of that part of the property.

Iit was late and we were exhausted. Otherwise, we would not have stayed after seeing the room. Because the HVAC controls are near the floor, I had to kneel on the floor to see the buttons better. I put a bath mat down to protect my knees. When I was done, the bath mat was filthy. The linens were clean, so we stayed. But, we kept socks on our feet. Didn’t want to walk barefooted on the filthy floor. Our socks became so dirty that I had to soak and bleach them. The stains didn’t come out. The flooring, some type of hard surface that looks like wood, was spongy and bounced when we walked in it. The manager was an excellent communicator and was very helpful when our key did not work.

I requested a leak repair last night hut no one showed up to fix it

The Staff

All in all, this was a pretty decent choice for our recent family vacation. The full breakfast with hot options was really nice. The room we stayed in looked nice. The sheets, blankets, pillows were clean. The room definitely looked a little worn out. Could use some updates. It was mostly the dresser, lamps, artwork, and appliances that looked well used. The floors were dirtier than I expected them to be. Our socks were almost black on the bottoms after just one day of walking on the floors. Most of the time, we chose to keep our shoes on just so our socks wouldn't get gross. But overall, the cleanliness was better than we've seen in other similar hotels.

Great accommodations and services

We had two people knock on our door 3 times to ask when we were leaving an hour before check out time. I told the guy at the first desk and he said they house keeping and maintenance. Which is ridiculous because they shouldn’t need to knock on occupied doors to find out when guest are leaving. They should get that info from the front desk and need to wait until after check out time to try to get inside rooms.
