Best Western PLUS Island Palms Hotel & Marina

Incredible location. Beautiful grounds…easy get to and from. We were pleased when we initially checked in, but then after the first couple of nights, we began to see the flaws. *no in room coffee maker…there is one in the lobby, but when I walked up to get coffee, the machine had an error message…no one with knowledge there to fix it. *door to room is not sealed and due to rain, the carpet around the door is slightly wet. *gutters need to be repaired…plenty of places where they were leaking (some spots pretty bad) *beds were not comfortable and are in need of replacement. *$25 a night to park? Cmon…this place isn’t that busy. Parking should be included. Would we stay here again? Absolutely…it is a wonderful spot. However, I hope hotel management makes some needed fixes to this hotel that could be an absolute gem.

The location was the only thing that was nice.

We had a room with the kitchen and the separate room with a pull out sofa. The sofa was in bad shape and needed to be replaced. The refrigerator and stove top were in bad shape and need to be replaced. The toilet seat was very loose and couldn't be tightened. The toilet it self was very low and private parts were touching the water. The toilet paper was so thin and cheap it was ridiculous. The last thing. The housekeeping was horrendous. First day of housekeeping the person took one of the comforters off of one of the Queen beds and didn't replace it for our entire stay. I had to ask to replace the conditioner one day and the lady just lifted it on the counter and didn't replace it in the shower. That same night the body soap ran out and I just used my wife's soap. Third day they didn't give us any toilet paper, so I had to ask for some and go get it. When I checked out the guy at the counter asked me how was it. I said the it was ok but the housekeeping was horrendous and he had no reply. This is after spending $1100 for 4 days and 3 nights. My wife and I were there for our 22nd anniversary. This wad the second time we stayed there for our anniversary. The first time was so much better and that's why we came back. Totally different this time. Very disappointing.

Room was clean, check-in was seamless. Personnel are friendly, courteous and helpfull. Dinner was good, for both in the dinner party.

Lunch was a little bit of a dissapointment. The paradise burger was a total bad expereience, the beef patty was scorged and bitter, the pineapple was burnt and bitter. The beef patty was replaced with another patty, less scorged, but still had the bitter scorged meat taste. Blackend does not meet scorged to a crisp with a bitter burnt meat taste, blackend creates a dark, flavorful, and smoky crust. The Thai chicken dish was delicious and flavorful.

The absolute most overrated hotel I’ve ever witnessed. It had 4.5 out of 5 rating and it should be .5, and that’s probably too high. The room pictures must be from a long time ago. Beyond mad. I’m calling Best Western tomorrow and letting them know that I will no longer be staying in their overrated hotels. What’s with the no coffee in the rooms? How cheap can you be? I’m going to demand money back; 4.5 rating is false. This hotel has nothing on Motel 6. I walk in the room and almost trip over the bed. Literally the door was about 4 inches from the bed. Spartan furnishings and cheap. Looks like they put anything in there. Nightstand was far below the bed. Furniture was old. You would think if a hotel doesn’t have in room coffee, that they would make some available in the lobby early in the morning. Not this hotel; 6:30AM is when coffee is available in the lobby.

The location on San Diego by was exceptional. Watching the ships come in and out of port was fun. It was quiet at night and we felt very safe.

$25 daily parking fee. We saw that there was free parking across the street and regret not knowing ahead of time we could have parked for free.

Everything was very clean, beautiful, comfortable. It feels great to be this close to the water, wake up to the Marina, to the birds. The pool and hot tub were great. Very friendly and helpful staff. I plan to stay there every time Im in SD. I have no complaints!
