Kodiak Compass Suites

This was my 2nd year in a row staying at this hotel, by far it is the nicest hotel in Kodiak. Clean with breakfast grab and go, amazing shuttle drivers. The amenities are on par with any 4 star hotel. We would definitely go back.

Everything worked as it should. A very good stay.

The rooms are spacious and the rooms with balconies overlooking the harbor are especially great. We enjoyed stepping out to look at the view. Walkable to the main area with restaurants. Easy transportation to and from the airport with shuttle. Highly recommend.

Nice place with lovely views of the harbor. Our king bed room had a sofa and well-equipped kitchenette. It also had a small balcony that was fun to stand on too look out over the harbor area. Request a room on the third floor with harbor views. It is only one floor up from the main lobby. We also appreciated the free shuttle to and from the airport.

This was our first time to stay at this property. Much improved over places we have stayed previously. Easy walking to downtown restaurants and harbor. If all one was going to do was fish and eat out you could stay here without a car. Newer property so clean, good amenities and helpful staff. Beds super comfortable.

Do not let the square basic exterior of this hotel keep you away. The rooms are roomy and comfortable. We upgraded at the last minute to a harbor-front room with a king bed. Great decision! We slept with the doors open most nights for the cool breeze (but be aware that it is a working harbor and somewhat noisy at times. If you shut the door, you cannot hear the noise). The bed was very comfortable. The room has lots of drawers and hanging space for unpacking. Everything was very clean. No housekeeping unless you request it (due to Covid). Although the description says it's a full kitchen, there is no stove top or oven, but there is a microwave. Nice size refrigerator, sink and dishes. Another room my friend was in had a single burner, so maybe if you ask at the front desk. The bathroom was large with a great shower and lots of storage space here as well. (I love to unpack when I'm staying for a whole week) There is a little onsite market for sodas and snacks, and interestingly, a premie baby's clothing section. One note- don't get the room next to the ice-maker. The staff empties the ice maker each morning early early and it's loud. The hotel is a perfect location. We walked to all of the restaurants and to the harbor. I was really impressed by the front desk staff. All were so friendly and helpful. They are also vigilant about guests wearing masks and Covid safety. One of our party had not tested before arriving in AK, and was required to quarantine until he had tested negative.(Although a nuisance for him, I was really glad they were enforcing the rules.) I highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again on my next visit.

After spending the entire day traveling to Kodiak , all we wanted to do was check into our room , take a shower etc. We made our reservation 2 months in advance . We arrived at the hotel at 9 pm and were informed our room was not ready due to the previous occupant checking out late . This is not something We wanted to hear ... In the end, the receptionist called housekeeping & they managed to get the room ready but what a disappointing introduction to this hotel !

The location of this hotel is perfect for an overnight stay in Kodiak. Walking distance to the town and restaurants and a view over the water. Rooms were large and clean. Breakfast was basic but was fine

We are from AK and so when we travel in state during the summer we know to get a room with AC. We paid extra to get a King suite on the top floor with AC and views but ended up with none of the above. We arrived to a hot room that smelled bad. Turned the A.C. down but the heat in the room kept climbing. We called the front desk and then went down in person and were told they had full control of the temps at the desk and she'd set it to 68. We left to have dinner and came back to a room that was 78 -hot! We repeatedly called and asked for help. Finally, we were told the "owner" was coming and he knew how to fix it and would come by our room when he finished. Again, we had to repeatedly call/go to the front desk for updates. Around 11:00pm we were so frustrated we started looking for another place to stay but that was a joke in itself. Went back down to the desk to be told the entire upstairs was without A.C. and they didn't know how to fix it and the elusive "owner" had already left. We had to convince her this was not ok as I have medical issues that can get very bad if overheated. We were finally given another room, well, the worst room in the hotel. Literally next to the front desk so it was noisy, literally next to the maintenance room and again, noisy. The room was small and we no longer had a King bed and the bed we got had a hollow center that we rolled to all night. No view. Terrible water pressure so to get the shampoo out of my hair my shower took 3 times longer than usual. The toilet was dirty and the refrigerator and cabinets had smeared prints all over them plus all the glasses and plates had chunks on them that looked like they hadn't been washed before being put away. We took all the glasses and exchanged them for the clean ones in our original room! But on the positive we did finally have AC and a cooler room. All but one of the front desk girls acted like they didn't really understand English and were absolutely no help with any questions we asked. My one and only stay in Kodiak and will not recommend this place to friends and family. Oh, and supposedly they have amenities on site that no one bothered to mention at any point during our stay. Zero customer service.
