S5 Guest House Yogyakarta

The staff are very friendly and attentive to details. We got served got tea when we arrive. Everything was perfect. Rooms are clean, air conditioning worked well. I liked very much how the structure of the building looks and it seems very well maintained. The location of the guesthouse is good with a variety of restaurants nearby within walking distance. They also offer messages. Just make sure to book in advance as they need to bring an external staff for that.

Everything is amazing

The location is pretty central, and there's parking if you have a motorbike. The room was generally clean, however the bathroom was less so. The WiFi was pretty good, although the password was not provided until we asked the staff. I think some of the rooms are bigger and nicer, but our room was very small and so-so. The shower had plenty of hot water which was also fantastic. They offered some welcome drinks during check-in too, which was appreciated. Like some other properties in Indonesia it feels like it has potential but they need to care a bit more about upkeep and the vibe.

The owner was often sitting near the entrance to the guesthouse looking grumpy, and never said anything to us the entire time we were there. The other teenage boys who run the place were more friendly, but despite paying online already, they asked me tons of questions and wanted all kinds of information on their forms during check-in which was a bit annoying. The room we were given was very small, and the bathroom was also small and had stains on the walls, and the toilet sprayer was bad and should be replaced. The AC was old and they locked all the settings like in some low-end motels, and it also was very dirty and smelled like cigarettes and we had very sore throats in the morning. We also woke up in the morning from the German tourists next door who were slamming doors and then playing music at a picnic table outside our room, which was bizarre. In my opinion this place is a bit overpriced and they have tried to squeeze too many rooms in, the design is so-so and it's not comfortable enough for me to recommend.

Really clean. The room was a bit dark but perfectly comfortable. The shower was powerful and consistently hot.

The location is a bit far away from the tourist area but if you are looking for a quieter stay, this hotel is great.

I enjoyed my stay. The staff are very helpful and the owner is very knowledgeable about the city and surrounding. I'm glad that I've met them. Highly recommend.
