"Maintenance/security issues detract from holiday experiance"

The property is in an good location, quite close to the town centre and all the amenities of the town, albeit quite a steep walk back to the house. The garden is nicely laid out. Property has nice large rooms with high ceilings

There were various maintenance issues which should have been sorted out prior to our visit given the cost of £11000 for the week, at this price you expect quality! Examples - back door didn't lock, property was insecure for 4 nights until temporary locks were installed on right hand door (see picture). Lounge window wouldn't open (see picture with missing handle) making it very hot and uncomfortable at times during high temperatures. Bedroom on top floor had no curtains at the windows (see picture), which meant the children couldn't sleep there and had to sleep on the floor in their parents room (see picture). Some windows had to be jammed open with accessories (see picture) to keep them open. The lounge sofas, whilst modern, had low backs and weren't very comfortable. After pointing out these various issues and requesting some compensation for all the faults and inconvenience we'd experienced, which detracted from our holiday which was a 40th anniversary celebration, the owner refused. I don't think I've complained about a property before but I feel this review is warranted given this is a premium priced holiday accommodation.

"Exceptional"

Perfect. We have stayed in many holiday rentals in Salcombe over the years and this was the best. Our kids (6 & 7) loved the attic room (which has 4 single beds plus TV, bean bags and a lovely en-suite bathroom) and we stayed in the first floor front bedroom (also en-suite). The accommodation is plentiful for even 2 families our size, and the garden is a delight. Views from all estuary facing rooms and a very elegantly modernised period vibe to the house. Parking is on-site and town / whitestrand quay is max 5 minutes walk. Quiet at night (important for kids) and very clean. There was even a bottle of Salcombe gin and Fever Tree tonics awaiting us (our favourite). There is a basement apartment as a separate rental below the house, which didn’t impact us but to be aware of. Not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for.
