"A good place to stay. Some small misses, but pretty good."

8.0

We won a gift certificate for a two night stay, with breakfast, and booked a room for early November. So, even though we did not pay for our lodging, I will try to remain as objective as I can. We took advantage of the valet parking, so that we could come and go easily, as we had a day trip planned, and it was not much more than the self-parking would have been. Friendly and efficient service; when you want you car, you text a number and get a text in reply when it's ready. Worked out very well. Big room, but oddly it had a Peloton bike in the room, and lacked a comfortable chair for reading, etc. We did not use the bike, maybe others would have enjoyed it. Comfortable bed; rally nice bathroom, and a good shower. All of the normal amenities. We dined down on the waterfront the first night. We walked, but a shuttle is available. We went to breakfast on the first morning (a Sunday) and it was very busy. A little understaffed, but the servers were friendly. Service was a little slow, but the food was good. A pretty comprehensive menu. After a long day of chasing lighthouses, we didn't want to walk to the waterfront again, so we went to the rooftop bar/lounge. It was a bit dark and cold; also somewhat empty. So not much of a vibe, although I'm sure it's different at other times. Huge shrimp cocktail; other small plates also available. Breakfast on the next day was less busy, but still slow. Could be a kitchen issue? Food was likewise good and plentiful. The room itself could use a deep cleaning, however. The hotel is nearly 100 years old, but has had numerous renovations, so it looks modern, with modern features.

Friendly staff at reception. Thank you.

I'd prefer a buffet breakfast and for it to be included in the room rate.

"Do not waste your money!"

4.0

I am a loyal Bonvoy member and stay many nights per year. 9 times out of 10, I am thrilled. This hotel is TERRIBLE for the cost. I paid $655 for Friday night and $721 for Saturday night. This did not include taxes. The man who greeted us on check-in was cold and rude. I have never not been thanked for being a Bonvoy member and Marriott always asks this question. I was not asked if I wanted points, breakfast, etc. It only got worse. I requested extra blankets on Friday night and was told the request was completed. The blankets were never delivered. The rooms are dirty and worn. I will attach all of the pictures. Chipped paint, dirty bathroom, random screw on the floor. The restaurant at the hotel has horrible service. Friday night it was empty but waited forever for food. Saturday it was busier but when we told them we just wanted ice cream (for the kids) and drinks, we were told our tickets would be at the end of a very long line. The restaurant manager was rude and later told us we were leaving out of the wrong door?! 'The very wrong door.' The only shining spot in the restaurant was Lexi. She was professional and efficient. They need to hire more like her. The price of this hotel is INSANE. It would be lucky to be a $200 per night hotel. I am happy to pay upwards of $800/night for an actual 5 star hotel but this property is embarrassing. I would expect a refund.

"Overpriced hotel with glitchy doors, noisy room, & bad check in service"

3.0

There’s a nice gym with foam rollers

Check-in was very odd. We arrived at 9pm and the check-in person was helping a couple but it seemed like they had some kind of issue, because the check-in person was silently typing on his computer for 10-15 minutes while the couple was getting increasingly aggravated. During this time, I assumed that another staff would come to check myself and my partner in because clearly the folks ahead of us were having some trouble but the person behind the counter didn’t acknowledge us in any way & continued to mysteriously click around on his computer. Finally, after about 20-30 mins of waiting, another staff came to check us in, which took approximately 30 seconds. Our room was a corner room and was right next to an elevator, so you could hear elevator sounds in the room which made it really hard to sleep. We had to use earplugs the whole time. The cleaning staff never came to clean our room or change sheets/towels perhaps because the room was tucked away in a corner. At one point during the stay, our key card stopped working. The front desk informed us that they needed to call engineering, which might take a while so we were told to sit & wait in the lobby which was rough because we had just run the Main Half Marathon (the reason we had made the trip to Portland) and were exhausted but couldn’t get into the room. Engineering came & they did fix the issue; the said it’s an issue with the new “electronic deadbolts” which they said seems to glitch. This seems like a big issue seeing as the door literally has a sign on it telling guests to make sure they deadbolt the door every night?? And finally, the room had a broken curtain rod. All in all an extremely overpriced hotel given the poor quality of our stay. I loved Portland & I’m excited to visit again but I will definitely stay elsewhere next time
