Breakfast and housekeeping staff were very good. Front desk needs some work on communication. Elevator out of order and where your room is at. Staying on the pool side the room was fine but when you step out it was like stepping into a sauna.
The main elevator was not working. The poolside one did work, but to get things up to a room, there were 5 steps. I feel bad because it was one of my favorite places years ago. The breakfast area left much to be desired. The staff was great in all areas. Had no way to cook anything.
It was a nice stay. We had been here 1.5 years ago so I feel it was better this time. Their breakfast was okay with a variety of things including waffles, but not a lot of other hot food choices.The pool area looked very nice and usually had people there. It didn't look like the hot tub was available, though. Wish we had brought our suits. We were here visiting family for the 4th of July holiday so we didn't spend a lot of time here. We were pleased with the accommodations for the price we paid, especially since other places were more expensive for the holiday weekend.
Good remodel of older hotel
There is something about this hotel that is both charming and nostalgic. Downtown Virginia is almost like a step back in time to the 1960's Mayberry of the Andy Griffin Show. Almost all of the stores were closed on Sunday with the exception of the neighborhood sports bar Snickers (refreshing) and I think they even have a couple of Otis characters about as well milling about. The hotel also has both a pool and sauna. Definitely, I would recommend a stay.
The main elevator is out of service and the front desk attendant didn't tell me about the pool elevator until I asked to be moved to a first floor room due to using a cane.
Excellent, great staff, CLEAN quiet and by the pool.
