The Moat House

Stayed overnight for wedding. Room lovely, spacious and clean. Tom who looked after the wedding was fab. However breakfast was awful. At 0850 all buffet trays were empty. Asked for them to be refilled. They filled sausage and bacon. After 10mins still no eggs, mushrooms or beans. 3 members of staff ack we were waiting but still no food. Eventually the warm beans came so I gave up on eggs and mushrooms as now everything else was cold. Toast is bought to table, another nightmare as waitress never thought to bring butter. When we finally got attention the amount bought was tiny!. There was no choice of omlettes, eggs benedict, sourdough with avo and eggs just the buffet. Found service and choice lacking for Lewis Partnership.

The rooms are spacious set in a tranquil location by the canal, albeit the traffic noise M6 can be heard off in the distance when outside but inside the property all was calm. The staff are all friendly and the breakfasts were very nice. There is also the main restaurant which serves up some very tasty dishes. One thing I often judge a hotel on is the quality of the towels provided since many good hotels often provide thin and poor quality towels for which in my opinion there is not any excuse for that shortcoming. The towels at the Moat were superb and some the best I have used in a hotel for some time.

Did't really find anything to complain about as such. So no comment.

Great location, big selection on the hot menu for breakfast, lovely dinner in the restaurant, reception staff lovely and free room upgrade.

The windows were letting in a lot of cold air and noise.

Staff were very friendly and the interior appealing.

The layout of the hotel is troublesome as we had a long walk from the bedroom to the restaurant. It is a big and long hotel which destroys the atmosphere and sense of community.

The atmosphere was warm & very welcoming. Food was exceptional!

Really need to listen when people are ordering food, seems to be a bit of breakdown in communication between what you ordered and what you get, when we complained this was however resolved. We ordered room service of just toast for 3 of us in one room (offered to collect it as wasn’t late) we were charged the astronomical price of £22 for 8 slices of toast with jam and butter this included a £5 delivery charge. Watch your bills as they add £1:23 to every bill to help plant trees, don’t mind once but every bill and we didn’t spot anything saying they did this, it was removed after the 3rd time of adding.

Night staff were great, very helpful. Picturesque location.

Noise, you need to get triple glazing as noise from M6 and more staff in breakfast area. Slightly overpriced considering how close to the motorway you are.
