The Golden Hotel, an Ascend Collection Hotel

I can’t believe I paid $475 for one night at this average hotel. There is nothing about it that justifies that price. Pros * Nice views upon request * Mountain decor * Inviting lobby * Free parking * Perfect location for walking around downtown Golden * Two ways to control your climate in the room * USB charging ports * Gym is nicely equipped. I found everything I needed. But it is very cramped and a pin was missing from the weight machine. I thought about telling the front desk so they could replace it but at this point I was tired of dealing with them. Cons * Mini fridges in rooms don’t have freezer sections but front desk will put your ice packs etc in their freezer for you * No valet or bell hop so plan to schlep your own stuff. Not sure if they even have luggage carts. * I couldn’t find the Wi-Fi information anywhere so I had to go back down to the front desk. * Bed was too hard and stiff. I woke up sore. * Bar was closed for a private event * TV only showed hotel info. When I selected the guide to see what was playing it reverted back to the hotel info. I didn’t call the front desk to fix this because I didn’t feel like having a stranger come into my room and also I felt like the guy at the front desk was tiring of me. The next morning I thought I would let them know so they could fix it for the next guest. The girl at the front desk proceeded to tell me what I was doing wrong. I was supposed to press a random number on the remote to bring up the channel guide. Really? Who would know to do that? So I suggested they post something on the TVs to let people know. She quite condescendingly said she would do that. She isn’t going to. (Note to service managers: It’s very frustrating for those of us aged 45+ to have to deal with rude younger employees. We would have been fired. I’ve stayed at hotels all over the world and have never experienced such rudeness.)

Charmless room but restaurant was decent

The restaurant and staff

Small bathrooms that need to be updated. Pillows are absolutely terrible. Need to change parking for guests so they have priority parking in a certain area.

We had a wedding block at The Golden Hotel, and our guests absolutely raved about it. The location is perfect, the rooms are wonderful, and the staff is incredible — attentive, friendly, and professional. The night before our wedding, we hosted a welcome cocktail hour on the terrace, and it was absolutely amazing. The outdoor space is beautiful, the bartenders were fantastic, and the pasta bar we had was delicious. The Golden Hotel made our pre-wedding celebration so special, and I truly wish we had done our wedding there as well. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone — it’s a stunning space with amazing staff and an unforgettable atmosphere.

Great location and restaurant in the hotel was amazing; very walkable to all the shops and the river. Great outdoor spaces and the rooms were very spacious. It's an older hotel but has been nicely updated and the service and staff were great! Highly recommend and would stay here again. I would probably live here if they would let me!
