"Wonderful Experience!"

10.0

I stayed at this hotel for over a month and received consistently outstanding service from check-in to check-out. This was my fifth stay, and the excellent experience remains the same every time. The entire staff was friendly, professional, and made my long stay very comfortable. Special thanks to Robin in Housekeeping — she was amazing, extremely accommodating, and always went above and beyond to keep my room perfect. Clean, well-maintained, and genuinely caring team. This hotel feels like a true home away from home. I’ll definitely be back!

"Basic"

4.0

I don’t write many hotel reviews unless a stay is either truly exceptional or genuinely disappointing, and unfortunately this one falls into the latter category. I stayed one night at Hotel Gettysburg and ultimately chose to check out early and move to another property. The experience started off poorly at check-in. While actively checking me in, the front desk employee was also carrying on a conversation with another couple standing beside the counter, giving them recommendations about things to do in town and discussing local haunted attractions. Meanwhile, I was being repeatedly bumped into by those same guests while trying to complete my check-in. It felt disorganized, awkward, and frankly unprofessional. When a guest is checking in, they deserve the front desk agent’s full attention—not to feel like they’re interrupting someone else’s conversation. Parking was another frustration. Parking is not included and costs an additional $18 per night in a nearby garage, which already feels disappointing considering many comparable properties include it. What made matters worse was the temporary check-in traffic situation. A tour bus unloaded a large group directly in front of the roundabout exit, completely trapping several cars—including mine—for approximately 30 minutes. Even after unloading, the bus remained there while the driver sat in the vehicle using her phone, making it impossible to leave. While I understand that may not be directly the hotel’s fault, it added to what was already a frustrating arrival experience. As for the room itself: very basic. No refrigerator, no microwave, no bar soap for the shower, and surprisingly, no tissues. That may seem minor to some, but as someone currently dealing with a sinus infection, having to leave the hotel and go buy tissues was incredibly frustrating and inconvenient. The biggest disappointment was the view—which was essentially just a wall. For a historic hotel in such a prime location, the accommodations felt underwhelming and lacking in basic conveniences many travelers expect. Another thing worth noting: the hotel bar and restaurant closed at 9:00 PM, and by 8:30 PM they were already effectively unavailable. If part of your decision to stay here is convenience—being able to relax onsite for a late drink or meal after a day of sightseeing—you may want to consider other options. Yes, the hotel has historic charm, and the location is excellent if you want to walk around Gettysburg. But “historic” shouldn’t be an excuse for poor service or minimal amenities. Also worth noting: unlike many nearby hotels, breakfast is not included. Overall, I found the stay overpriced for what was offered. Gettysburg has plenty of lodging options, and based on this experience, I would choose one of those instead.
