Kumano Winery Guest House

Everything, what a beautiful stay!

The property was beautiful and rustic in the best way. The view at sunset of the mountains while sitting with the goats was a highlight. The dinner and breakfast were also a highlight that started off the first official day of my 18?day trip. The wagyu steak was incredible as well as the other dishes. I even got to see the rest of the goat farm before starting my hike on the Kumano Kodo. I will be back!

We had a lovely experience at Kumano Winery. Both Yutaka and Giovanni are wonderful hosts. They made us feel at home in an amazingly well-kept house. The dinner was superb! Yutaka´s goat cheesecake was amazing! Staying at their place was one of the highlights of our Japan experience. We will be forever thankful!

I felt the room description was misleading. It was described as a suite with separate living room, bedroom and bathroom. Infact it was a large attic room up a steep set of stairs. The room was divided by a low beam in the middle with a sofa on one side and bed on other. There was a frosted glass window high up on one wall but overall it was dark. The toilet and bathroom were communal and down the steps and along a couple of corridors - not great if you need to use it at night. There was no door to the room. The extras came to quite a lot more so it ended up one of our more expensive stays. Glad we were there for just one night.

A unique experience in a mountain home, with a family that serves excellent meals, featuring cheese from their goats (you may have a chance to milk them). The house is old and drafty, but authentic and lovingly maintained. It is a very remote spot but the host will pick you up from the local train station (for a very modest fee) and drop you off at the Kumano Kodo trailhead. If you like this place, try the Nongase Guest House (13km hike on the trail), which is owned by the same family.

We really lucked out when we chose to stay with Taka & Giovanni. Everything about their beautiful home in the mountains, after our hike from Takijiri to Takahara on the Kumano Kodo, was pure bliss.

We stayed here for our first night of hiking the Kumano Kodo. We had an amazing meal and the hosts were so friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend staying here!
